Ahhh yes. I heard he eventually finished the ad, though in a more animated form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH1PJTY9AVA ;-)

Thanks for posting this, Roger!

Pinky & The Brain's interpretation.

Have you ever seen Pinky and The Brain's take on this?

A few changes made it a bit more family-friendly, but it's uncannily close to the original. Apparently it came about because voice actor Maurice LaMarche, whose voice of The Brain is basically a Wells impression, regularly used the original Frozen Peas dialogue as a vocal warm-up before recording.

I'd never heard of the original Frozen Peas when I saw this cartoon in the early/mid 90s. Just because of the weirdness of it, I suspected it was based on something in real life I had never heard of. I had no idea what it was, and in those pre-Google days I didn't really have any way of finding out. I happened upon the original a few years ago on YouTube, and I pulled several abdominal muscles laughing at it.

Full of country goodness, and green pea-ness.

Welles once said, "I hate TV. I hate it as much as peanuts. But I can't stop eating peanuts." He also was hooked to TV - a big fan of Chester on Gunsmoke. This got Dennis Weaver the nascent Norman Bates part in "Touch of Evil." Hitchcock took note. Janet Leigh, Mort Mills, and cinematographer, John L. Russell, will all soon work on "Psycho." A coincidence? Bogdanovich says no.

why is he the best ever?!

This is hilarious. :-)

This was first posted on Reelradio.com in 1997 and they have an additional minute of the session. Not sure if this was supposed to be a radio spot or voiceover for a TV spot. There is also another YouTube video of this with much better sound quality.

It is a bit sad that Welles was reduced to being a pitchman; but he did that series of spots for Paul Masson Wines with pure grace! Here, he is a perfectionist working with copy that he finds incoherent and a complete boob of a director giving him no help at all!

I feel the need to go buy some peas, cod, and beef.
