The man who climbs mountains with his bare hands

I watched this a few nights ago. What struck me was how conquering fear was absolutely essential to his survival -- and what we all may be capable of if we can master our fears. Made me look at myself and the many ways I allow myself to be controlled by fears and how that's holding me back in my life.

I'll be surprised if a documentary film isn't made about Alex Honnold within the next 10 or so years. I've seen a couple of videos of him before and what he does is absolutely incredible - especially so to me, since I suffer from an intense fear of heights. I remember almost crying at 10 years old when I managed, with extreme bravery, to climb 20 metres up a wall at an indoor climbing centre and they wouldn't let me down until I climbed another 10.

I saw this segment on 60 Minutes. Couldn't believe this man. Sat there, entranced, the whole time.

We should all be so blessed to find something we're so passionate about in life. Good for him.

He likes different things than you do.
Try to accept, not judge.

I saw it, was astonished by it, and with I had 1/100th of his fearlessness in me. How he does it, I'll never know. Just hope he never dies from it. When seeing a person like that, it's natural to think there's something wrong with him. But perhaps we are the ones who are not normal.

A lot of us who rock climb don't understand the thrill of free soloing, either. Or, I suppose I should clarify - I can understand why people do it, but it's not worth the risk. No matter how good you are, you can't totally predict the conditions of a climb (wet holds, loose rock, slippery bird poop). I'd rather live to climb again.
