"One Star - DO NOT BUY! Received paper cut when trying to adjust font size. Calls to tech support went unanswered. Finally received response by yelling out window and was told PHONE HAD NOT YET BEEN INVENTED. Unacceptable! One star because wood finish matched my coffee table."

Thank heavens for Version 2.0!

At least this contraption needed no electricity, which reminds me of a quote:

"Books will never die because they have certain advantages: you can drop them; you can read them in low light; and you don't need to recharge their batteries or plug them in. Books also have a tactility and heft that a disc, cable, or satellite will not equal." -Guy Kawasaki, "Wise Guy" column: "Potholes along the Information Superhighway", pg. 274, MacWorld, July 1994, vol. 11, no. 7.

This reminded me of something else. 13 year later, Kawasaki admitted in his blog that he likes the Kindle (but still prefers books): How to Change the World: Amazon Announced Kindle

And more recently, also about the Kindle: “I do believe these things will take off. Will they eliminate books? I don’t think so, not in my lifetime.” -Guy Kawasaki, interview: Fresh Dialogues, June 24th, 2009.

Regarding Emilio's comment...The Kindle 2's umteenth price drop, and realising it has free (albeit "experimental") web browsing has led this foot-dragger to finally consider purchasing one. If I can follow Ebert's Twitter feed, how GHASTLY can it possibly be? ;)
