Reed Johnson and Geovany Soto Traded???

| 9 Comments | No TrackBacks

Reed Johnson was lifted in the fifth inning of Monday night's Cubs/Pirates game for pinch hitter David DeJesus, than was hugged by teammates in the dugout. Johnson had started the game in right field against lefthanded starter Erid Bedard but right-handed reliever Chris Resop was on the mound.
Still, Johnson was thought to be a trade target as a valuable bench player, leading the majors with 13 pinch hits and hitting .448 off the bench. His game-winning pinch hit bunt Saturday gave the Cubs a 3-2 victory over St. Louis.
There was no immediate word on Johnson's status, but one report said Johnson and pitcher Paul Maholm had been traded to Atlanta, which had tried earlier to acquire Ryan Dempster
Moments later, catcher Geovany Soto also was lifted from the game. He spoke briefly in the dugout to teammates who shook his hand as he exited.
The Class AAA Iowa Cubs also lifted outfielder Brett Jackson from their game Monday night, possibly to be called up to replace Johnson.
One report said Soto had been traded to the Texas Rangers for Class AA right-hander Jacob Brigham, 24, who is 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA.

I hope not!!!!! This is a guy who plays ball and the Cubs need!!!!!! A BIG mistake if so!

It's a shame to see such a good player like reed leave, however it is necessary in order for the Cubs to continue the rebuilding process that should ultimately end with a more successful team. I'm left wondering how much the Cubs could have gotten for him, or if he is the outfielder packaged with Dempster going to the Dodgers.

I really hope the Giants didn't get him...

He's likely gone. Remember people, this is the same stupid club that traded Lou Brock, Ron Santo and Greg Maddux.

Who did they get of any consequence for ANY of the three? Nobody.

The Cubs have to trade good players to get some good young talent. This will make them much better in the future and build a dynasty like the yankees. I believe the Cubs will contend in 2014 and hopefully be an elite team for a long time. Think long term when these trades happen. And if Theo can package Soriano with Depmster to LA, he is worth his weight in gold!!!! Even though Soriano is having one of his best years as a Cub.

cubs ha good joke

Stand back and watch the players fly away. Two keepers: Rizzo and Castro. Everyone else is probably up for grabs.

I would HATE to see Reed go. He is by far the best bench guy in the majors both on the field and off. But if he is gone hope he goes to a team that will make a deep playoff run. I certainly hope Paul doesnt go anywhere. He still has many years ahead of him and has been dealing like a number 1 starter.

Maddux wasnt traded, he was a free agent and signed with the braves. Lets not even get into the discussion of reid and soto bein in the same league as brock, palmeiro, etc. Maybe get ur facts right before posting nonsense next time.
