Go Cubs .... go!

| 43 Comments | No TrackBacks

The Cubs completed one of their most embarrassing collapses on the 100th anniversary of their last World Series title.

For the second straight year, the Cubs couldn't get a clutch hit from any of their high-priced players and got swept.

This year it was the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Cubs took the best record in the National League into the playoffs and got swept again. It was an all-around tumble. Ryan Dempster struggled in Game 1, the defense stunk in Game 2 and the problem with Game 3 was the common bond - no offense.

Alfonso Soriano and Aramis Ramirez stunk.

I think the cubs have earned every bit of these past 100 years. Best team in the NL and then get swept AGAIN! Tell me again why Chicago is a cubs town? Lou who? If you have the best players and don't perform...don't you look to the manager? Something stinks with this group and waiting until next year isn't good enough, not after 100 years!

Well it's over - finally! Maybe now I can get some rest. I have been a Cubs fan for 38 years but that era ends today. I just can't do it anymore. I went to 21 games this year and I swear I will never go to another Cubs game ever - unless I am cheering for their opponent. There comes a time when you just have to let go - kind of like a parent watching thier drug addicted child go through rehab for the 10th time - enough is enough! It's just not fair to me to suffer again - I surrendor. I feel like I got dumped by a girl that I really love - the only way to get over her is to start seeing someone else. I guess the best revenge is to start dating the girl she hates the most which means, I hate to tell you, but from this day forward I am a Cardinals fan. No point in naming names of the culprits in this pathetic series - almost everyone on the roster contributed to the losses. My heart has been broken once again and I will not set myself up to ever feel this pain again - I am done with the Chicago Cubs forever!

Dear CUBS players:

What kind of team is not on the bench cheering their teammates on when they are at bat in the playoffs.
FOR EXAMPLE: When they showed the dugout after Derrick Lees hit in the 8th and only a few coaches were in the dugout...
and thats how this team played... no emotion.. no heart.. no desire..
No matter what kind of CUB FAN you are there is no defense for this team not being on the field firing up their teammates from the dugout when they are at bat in the playoffs, NONE...
That alone shows you the heart of this team...
Watching the game from the locker room while your teammates are supposedly trying their best to get a hit in the playoffs is inexcusable...DEFEND THAT CUBS PLAYERS.
The Media blamed the Cubs fans for not supporting them during the first home game when the CUBS themselves are not in the dugout supporting their teammates in game 3... I do not want to hear any promises about next year from any Cub after seeing that.
Does the Bulls bench go to the locker room in the forth quarter when their losing? Does the Bears bench go into the locker room in the 4th quarter? Does the Black Hawks? Does your bowling team quit in the 8th frame? Sorry Cubs.. you cannot ask more from your fans than you are prepared to do for yourselves. If we fans our supposed to be proud of our team, our team must be proud of its own efforts first. Are you Cubs players?

Somehow, the Cubs assembled a powerful-looking regular season team that got swept AGAIN in the playoffs. The team as a whole wilts when the lights get bright.

The Red Sox found a way to learn how to win in the postseason and got over the hump. I don't think it's possible with this team.

How does this happen? Are there any answers?

I know one thing, this team is a joke.

Even though I'm an Astros fan, I was going to pull for the Cubs in the playoffs this year--until the I witnessed the disgusting behavior of many Cub fans during the days of infamy in Milwaukee. I didn't mind that Cubs fans were really happy that the baseball/weather gods--and the Commissioner--had granted you two extra home games.

But to boo the Astros when they took the field, still shell-shocked after living through a hurricane. And to boo them as their families still sat in dark, battered Houston? Wow.

Now you've been swept, and you've reaped what you've sown.

Apparently 100 years wasn't long enough for you to learn a little humility, not to mention class.
David Theis

When are Cub fans going to start looking at the Great Lou Pinnella? This guy has been in charge of some of the greatest regular season teams of all-time and couldnt make it happen in the post season. HE IS THE PROBLEM...HE CANT MANAGE IN BIG TIME SPOTS AND HE CANT MOTIVATE THE PLAYERS.

I have seen the Bears, Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks, Illinois, Rush, Tilden Tech (high school),all win championships. I was hoping for the Cubs, I am a Sox fan, but I hope I don't hace to wait to many years. You see I am 83 years old.....time is moving on.

The universe is in perfect harmony again. Cubs Lose Cubs Lose. Cubs won't win till 2015. Ask Marty McFly.

As a Chicago Cubs fan all my life, 50 years, it pains me to know that I will never see a World series team. I have defended the Chicago Cubs for the Last time. It is now time for me to start watching some other sport. I will not Baseball again. For the money the fans have to pay for the manager and the high profile players, we should receive rebate checks. I'm going to spend the next several days trying to figure out how to tell my grandson I'm watching the Cubs any more.

Job #1 this off season is to dump Soriano. He is absolute POISON at the top of the order. Swings at everything, and rarely ever takes the first pitch. I like Lou Pinella, but for the life of me I can't understand why he absolutley refused to move Soriano down in the order. An absolute rally killer if ther ever was one. Get him and his huge contract out of here and sign a real lead-off hitter who will work the count and not strike out or pop up every other at bat.

Job #2 would be to send Fukudome back to home - A (Japan).

And finally, get Zambrano to grow up and start acting like an adult. We need our so called ace to stay calm under pressure, and not have a child like meltdown every time things don't go his way.

I am a former Chicagoan and was die hard cubs fan until 1969 when they choked. After they got slaughtered by the Dodgers I figured out. "You can't SWING A Bat with your hands around YOUR NECK!!!!!

I've been a Cub fan for most of my 50 years. I pitched most of my Cubs gear the year after their blow-up against the Marlins. Swore never to root for them again. But this year, I came back. Thought this year would be different. Nope. I got rid of the Cubs hat that I bought this year, buried it between a rock and a hard place (my driveway), burned my Cubs pennant. Yes, up in flames.

Bud Selig, where are you. Please, please contract the Cubs. Give the northside an expansion team. One with no pathetic history.

Mr. Zell, sell Wrigley Field. Make sale contingent upon moving that pathetic structure out of town, one piece at a time. If they can move the London Bridge to Arizona, they can move Wrigley Field, a rodent infested hole.

Change the name of the Team. Zephyrs, Lakers, Grizzlies, Cubans (a team named after a potential new owner and a cigar...... "Cubbies" is so pathetic. Bud we need you!!!!!

I'm signing off, removing all links to Cubs on my laptop. Go (away) Cubs Go (away)!

Embarassing and Shocking!

The Cubs have been doomed these past couple of years because Amy Jacobson is not doing live reports from the Wrigleyville taverns.

Cub fans deserve what they got. As Mr Brennaman said early in the year. These are the most obnoxious fans in sports. How a team that has not acomplished anything last hundred years is beyond me. How these fans can berate others is a testament to their stupidity.

Cub fans deserve what they got. As Mr Brennaman said early in the year. These are the most obnoxious fans in sports. How a team that has not acomplished anything in the last hundred years, can own an entire city is beyond me. How these fans can berate others is a testament to their stupidity.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I am a 50 years cub fan and I have had enough. I burned my cub and W flags last night and I promise I will not watch another cub game again. To many disappoints from this organization to justify the fan support that keeps getting excuses and substandard play from high priced players. I have had it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a diehard Dodger Fan for over 45 yrs and I'm cruising website...The only reason I'm commenting (because I never kick someone when they are's not good sportmanship) is because like, Ed SIndicich on October 5, 2008 4:05 AM, I too noticed the Cubs dugout and commented on it on the L.A. Times Live Blog but no one seemed to notice what I was talking about. That's unheard of to have your teammates give up on you like that..Did everyone have to go to the bathroom at once?

It's simply too dangerous...leave the playoffs in Chicago to the team that gets it, that has grit, and has found a way to win a WS....the team that won today...the Sox.

Hey Cub Fan - Let me assure you, we here in Houston couldn't be any happier than to see what happened to your "beloved little cubbies". To read the many vicious comments coming from so many Chicago Cub fans regarding the destruction of Hurricane Ike, immediately following the storm was disgusting. We here in Houston will shed no tears for your Cubs getting swept. No, rather the real majority of Houstonians couldn't be any happier about the way your season ended. The only thing I'm sorry about, is that Houston can't host a parade for the Dodgers to celebrate their first round sweep. Chicago, here's to another 100 years of futility. Your just LOSERS!!!

The most pathetic bit is Pinella using the oxymoronic term, "Cub swagger". Swagger? It reminds me of the movie "Stir Crazy" where Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor sashay into prison past the tough cons, with their hearts in their throats and Pryor says, "That's right. That's right. We're bad. That's right."

Nothing is a given. The best record means nothing if you do not show up to play when it counts. Blame the players for not performing or caring for that matter. Blame Lou for looking like he missed his naps and about to fall asleep in the dugout. This is my favorite team. I am not 100 years old. I know that my team for the 1st time in 100 years won back to back division titles. I know that my team gave a season full of memories. I know that I will be there from the first pitch until the last out of next season cheering my team on. For once Wrigley has become a place where you had fans expecting good baseball to be played, instead of the party palace it had been known for. This year we did not go to the World Series, but this year has shown me what we are capable of becoming. To say that you are done with this team now, in my mind that is inconcievable.

to cub nation: applications are being accepted to retiring or terminally depressed cub backers to join the cardinal fan club. club meaning a team and city that wins when its least expected , like 1964 and 2006 and tho cardinal backers whine about the lack of money management shells out to "buy" a trip to the playoffs, it is a team that is committed to the basics of knowing how to play the game. remember, time heals all wounds.

This team of NO-SHOWS deserves all the bashing it gets. How do you win that many games during the season, be considered the favorite to be in the WS and then go out there and put on a display of sheer pathetic baseball???? Man to Man, this team showed no nards!!!! I truely believe this team will be remembered for turning Cubs fans into ex-fans. How do you not start your so called ace in game 1?? Sure Dempster had a great year especially at home but in a short series you want your best pitcher starting game 1 PERIOD and then you pitch Dempster or Lilly next. To not have Lilly pitch in your first three games is asinine. Ramirez struting, Soriano wiffing, Derosa not advancing runners, Soto lack of clutch hitting, Double-play Lee who by the way is now more like Mark Grace with his limited power hitting. Who wants a singles hitting first baseman?? Fukudomes collapse and then starting first two games????? was winning a "Take it if it Comes" thought for Sweet Lou???? He was out coached, players were out played and the city and fans like me feel bitter and unforgiving. No longer will I watch a Cubs game until they have earned my time. Back up the truck, im done with you pathetic bunch of LOSERS!!!

There is at least one positive to come out of the Cubs collapse:

They are off to a fast start on a second century of futility!!!!

Way to coach, Lou.

Fukudome sure showed up big!!!!

Maybe you should offer Soriano and Ramirez revised contracts so they play in October, too.

I hate Wrigley Field. They ought to tear that pile of junk down as soon as possible. It is a mounument to losing and medocrity. As long as the Cubs remain in that ramshackle mess, they will never be in a World Series.Don't even take the scap!

David your comments about booing are totally out of line (are you kidding me?)
Trust me I prayed every night for the Houston area, and still do,I have family there, but to use that as an excuse to be un happy is nuts.
If the shoe was on the other foot it would have been the same way.
This is a baseball game we are talking about not victims, after those 2 games there were victims.
The Cubs choked, we had the best record going in and SIMPLY CHOKED!! WE BUCKLED UNDER THE PRESURE!!!
If we would have signed your guy Carlos THE R.B.I machine Lee instead of Alfonso Chokiano, he would have shown us the way to the promise land, Itruely believe that.
We signed a play off buster!!

Hi Chris,

I tried to post this on the message board but it wouldn’t take. I hope you can find it in you to post it for me.

Let me start by saying I was born a Cub fan! Just like my father and his father before. I had hoped that my grandfather could have seen a World Series win as I wished this for my own father. I too was hoping that I would see one in my lifetime as I wished the same for my sons. My story is no different than many others who were born to be a "CUBS FAN". Growing up a North Sider in Rogers Park I was proud to wear their colors. It was a statement of honor in our family and with everyone we knew. I am more then ashamed of the Cubs right now. They have reached into my soul and taken all my hopes and dreams away. My memories of taking the "L" to the opener every spring and hoping to get an autograph from Banks, Santo, Jenkins and the rest of my idols.

I can't continue to be a fan anymore, I just can't take them losing. Their lack of effort has reached an all time level. I needed them to do it for all the people of Chicago and Cub fans who have watched loved ones pass who only wanted to see them win one, just one in the last 100 years! It seems like people don't come to see the Cubs, they come to Wrigley, to say they were at Wrigley! Cubs fans need to take a stand and say "No More"! They need to stop going to Wrigley to show the Cubs that "We won't take it anymore"!

Lou has done a good job and I don't blame him. We as fans made the Cubs what they are. They need to know how you feel about what they have done to you and your family. Not to mention the great City of Chicago. To fall back on "Maybe Next Year" is not worth it to me anymore. Everyday life is difficult enough, but my heroes, my team let me down. I never wavered from supporting them either did my father and his father. They always said "Maybe next year"! Sorry dad, grandpa, next year never came, not even for me.

As a Cardinal fan I can not tell you how much this releives our pain. Lets look at some facts. Population (fan base and revenue generation)Chicago area 9.5 million, Saint Louis 2.1 , we are told that income is 7 times what the Saint Louis team can generate. Here is a new one. How many ex cardinals can you have on your team and not win? Marquis, Edmonds is it two? No it does not matter as the Cubs can never win.

Earlier this year I went to Cardinal/Cub game at Busch Stadium. The Cubs were leading all the way into the 9th inning. There were two rows of obnoxious Cubs fans sitting in front of us heckling the Cardinal fans around them. The were full of rude comments and sarcastic remarks about how the Cardinals were losers and Cubs were the kings of baseball now. Then your boy Kerry Wood came into the 9th inning to close out the game. He blew it. Cardinals won. Then the two rows of poor foolish cubbie fans sat down and had to endure the wrath of payback from everyone that had to listen to their B.S. all day. Typical.....So I have to say, I rooted against the Cubs in the playoffs and celebrated another CHOKE. CUBS LOSE...CUBS LOOSE...CUBS LOOSE....CUBS LOOSE.....CUBS LOSE...CUBS LOOSE...CUBS LOOSE....CUBS LOOSE.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Maybe you should put another couple hundred million into your club this offseason.

where do they go from here?? Move Soriano out of he Lead Off Hole, they need a left handed bat. How about Adam Dunn in RF? I know his average sticks, but he would hit 50 hr's in 81 games a Wrigley.

The lineup could look like this- Riot, Dero, Lee, ARam, Soriano, Dunn, Soto, cf (fuku and Pie)

Cub fan abandons team!!!

search google:

"Tony Kluck Cubs press conference"

some1 has to tell soriano and ramirez that the postseason is still part of the season and that they should continue playing.soriano is a bum but the stats had the cubs winning 67% of games with him leading off(yep, its true).ramirez has been the best clutch hitter for the cubs last few years so its surprising to see his total complete breakdown.facts are big Z has thrown 2 solid games in last 2 postseasons-and actually made dodgers pitchers work(drawing a walk)cant fault lou that much---its a veteran team--amazing that a total complete breakdown in almost all facets of baseball occur within a crucial 3 game stretch.lous biggest gaffe to me was not hitting for harden in top of 4th at la.torre walked theriot to test lou,and i think given so few chances cub had bat 4 harden(he ended up only going another 1 1/3 innings),btw i was at gm 3 and the dodger fans were actually going to get seats next year in la just to boo soriano.

Hopefully the new owner will move the team somewhere else, and we will just have one team to cheer for. Tear down Wrigley and build a re-hab center for all those cub fans who are going to be alcoholics and drug abusers trying to get over another knife in the heart!~!!!

Cub fans are some of the most bias and racist fans this side of Boston. When Dusty was here he took the blame for all of the sub par players the Cubs had DAILY!!! Now that they have one of the best teams in baseball and are still choking the GREAT LOU PINNELLA gets no blame and now the players are blamed and Lou can still make drunk statement after drunk statement and the dumb blind Cub fans still think he is a great manager. Look how Cub fans did Latroy Hawkins, Corey Patterson, Jacque Jones and Sammy Sosa with the racist taunts and Kerry Woods never got an ounce of blame but kept getting contracts and praise just because he looked like most of the fans. Think about it Cub fans are all over Lee, Soriano and Ramerez for having 3 bad games but if it wasnt for them the Cubs would have been about 10 games out of first place. So Cub fans just say what you mean and wish for a team that looks just like you so this way I wont have to read or hear a lot of crap.

I've been a Cubs fan for 38 years. I lived and worked in Chicago for 14 years, always living within walking distance of Wrigley Field. I went to 31 games in 2003, but as did all of you, had my heartbroken once again. I vowed that I would never let myself get that emotionally invested in the Cubs again. 4 years ago, I moved to Montana. It's about as far away from Wrigleyville as I could get. I don't know how, but I got sucked back in this year. I got a dish so that I could get WGN and watch games whenever they were on. And with the Cubs being so good this year their TV exposure allowed me to see a least a couple of games a week. My Apple Dashboard would give me the stats on all the games I wasn't able to see on TV, and I spent my summer focused on the Cubs. Man do I feel stupid! It reminds me of the saying that you can't keep doing the same things over and over and somehow expect a different outcome. Well I for one am done! I can't and won't do it anymore. From this day forward the Cubs are dead to me. I won't spend another summer focused on the "un-lovable losers". I'm not gonna be a Cardinals Fan, I'm just not gonna watch baseball. It will be much easier for me than for those of you living in Chicago. While Chicago will always be my home, I have never been more happy that I don't live in Wrigleyville as I am today, and I feel for those of you that have to endure that dark feeling until Spring. F the Cubs!

Cubs fans, you are great ambassadors for your team. Keep up your nonsense and the entire nation will come to HATE you. I know I already do.

I too have had it. Lou Pinella is an idiot. Prior to the playoffs Lou said "whoever had the hot hand was going to make the roster". Then he proceeds to add Howry, we all know how "good" he was and leave Hoffpauir off the list. Maybe Lou couldn't spell Hoffpauir. Hey Lou he was the LEFT HANDED HITTER that hit the stuffing out of the ball the last two weeks of the season. Then there was the lineup decisions. OK let's take the two guys who didn't even smell first base the last two weeks and hit them one and two. Having Soriano and Fukudome strike out leading off the first two games was special wasn't it. Then his great pitching decisions. Let's take the best pitcher we had in September and make him the number 4 starter. "BIG Z" should have been lucky to be the 4th and Lilly should of at least been number 2 if not number 1. I have made a decision, I am now 62 years of age, I think I will retire. Not from being a Cub fan but from work. Then I can devote all my time to a new project. I am going to call it "STAY AWAY OPENING DAY". I will do everything I can to organize frustrated Cub fans to boycott the 2009 openibg day. I am not sure how but I am sure I will find away. if you like this idea stay in touch.

I have been a season ticket holder for the past 11 years. Every year when I get ready to write that BIG check I think maybe this is the year! Well no more, this team has broken my heart for the last time. The sad part about it is, there are about 25,000 people on a wait list to snatch up my tickets. Well good luck to you!

My mother just recently passed away at the age of 94 having never seen her beloved Cubs win the World Series. I give her credit. I can't wait that long. I am jumping ship.

I agree with Darwin, Piniella is an IDIOT. His pitchng decisions all year have cost us games. Not usig Lilly in the playoffs was one of his dumbest.

Myabe they are waiting for new owners to take over so they can look
like heros.

At any rate, I will not lose any more sleep nor will I shed anymore tears over this team!

Major chokes by Lou omitting Hoffpauir and starting Fukodome, who should have been off the playoff roster. Looks like Lou's hunch that Fukodome would heat up in the playoffs backfired.

The soft "Big 3" of Soriano, Lee and Ramirez repeated their choke of the 2007 playoffs and are chokers until proven otherwise. One of the sissies should go. Lee would probably be easiest to trade and insert Hoffpauir at first or platoon him in LF next year.

Why did Lou start a choking Ryan Dempster, not Z in game #1? Why was Fukodome even on the playoff roster, let alone starting over Reed Johnson? Why didn't Ronny Cedeno see the light of day, when all Theriot was capable off were slap hits to right and weak throws? There should be no forgiveness for this soft group of players!

I am as dissappointed as the rest of Chicago, saw the possibility
of "going all the way". I sat, grumbled, b*tched, whined and felt
sorry for me. But you know what, come spring, I will be watching
again, with the hopes and the dreams of all the northsiders, hopeing
that this will "be the year"! Sure, 2 years in a row, they choked,
I infact wanted to market a t-shirt with a cubbie bear choking with
the caption "2007-2008 Cubs post-season" but couldn't bring myself
to it. I have been and will continue to be a "die hard Cubs fan!"

Growing up in west central Illinois I was in a vast mix of Cardinals and Cubs fans, and it was love one/hate the other. Thank God I'm a Cardinals fan and not a Cubs fan. Despite their many major market advantages the Cubs are a national symbol of futility. For decades they couldn't even put together two consecutive winning seasons. This year was the first time in 100 years they made the playoffs in consecutive seasons. This year's gag job in the playoffs was the latest in a string of fairly recent choke jobs. There's no one on earth that can recall the last Cubs World Series Championship! Cardinals fans readily recall lots of playoff wins, N.L. Pennants, and World Series titles. The Chicago Cubs - a pathetic legacy. Go Cards!
