There's a saying in life that it's not how hard you punch - it's how hard of a punch you can take and keep moving forward.
I have always believed in that saying.
I think that stands true for the Lake Zurich boys soccer team this season. After getting off to a slow start in the Barrington Tournament, the Bears are now within two games of capturing the Class 3A title.
"I don't know if it was a bumpy start or not, they are high school kids after all and we took the regular season to figure out how to play our best soccer," Lake Zurich coach Michael Schmitz said. "And fortunately everything is coming together at the right time. Our seniors are playing well and leading the way. Our young guys have stepped up and made the adjustments necessary to be successful at this level."

Just as I've always said.... the best team is the one who is playing best at the END of the season.
And wouldn't it be nice to see the state finals and semis on a "real" soccer field. Can't say I really much like the North Central field which really is an old carpet and a much narrower field which kind of changes the game. Wouldn't it be great to see it at Toyota Park or on a real "regulation" size grass field like at U of I in Champaign or at the U of I Chicago field ?

Maybe LZ got off to a rough start because that is the point in the season that they played a tough schedule. Talk about a soft path to the state tourney...schaumburg super-sectional? Seriously? Although I will take a LT vs. LZ final.
This could be the year. There really is not a hotter offensive team then LZ right now. They have the fire power to win it all.
I would really like to see a seeded soccer IHSA tournament next year that takes into account strength of schedule and win/loss record so there is no question who the best teams are. This geographic stuff is a joke. I would have liked to see if LZ or LT would have even made it out of the Downers Grove/Naperville sectional. Doubt it.
hey soccerfan, you absolutely don't know what your talking about. Tell us all why you so strongly feel like LZ or LT wouldn't have made it? LT beat the #2 in the country, the defending champs and LZ who smoked everyone in their bracket. LZ is a very good team. NV,LT and LZ were the strongest among the rest.
Hey observer, unless you've seen all of the Neuqua games, you absolutely dont know what you're talking about. I know you are excited about LT beating Neuqua one time, but I will say that on any given day, it would be possible for NN, NC, WWS, Waub to beat Neuqua,LT,or LZ. Those teams were very strong and could have some great games. Thats how soccer is. No one is unbeatable. It was a tough sectional for Neuqua. Can LT and LZ say the same?
A seeded tournament would mean a LOT of travel for some and little for others. A 2 1/2 hour trip each way for a soccer game on a school night might put the kids in a bind scholasticly and tire them out in an unequal way. I do not see it happening.
Congratulations to the players this year. It was interesting to see the years progression on the players and programs.
I am not alone by wishing the seniors the best of luck and kudos for your years of effort and sportsmanship. As all teams get into the tournament and with a single elimination format only one team in each division goes home with a final victory. This does not diminish your four years of playing.
Thank you, I had a great time watching again this year.
Hey Soccerfan I can tell you the same unless you haven't seen all of LT or LZ's games, then why are you making the statements?? You are being negative and picking on other teams. Yes I agree that those teams can beat LT, Nequa or LZ in any giving day, but you say "doubt it" in a negative way, say something positive after all they are young H.S. kids.
