Good thing I took French 1 my freshman year of college...just wished I remembered something from it.
I had to take a foreign language class in college, even though I took two years of Spanish in high school. Little did I think I'd ever need French unless I ran into a cute French girl. If I thought I was going to need it, I wouldn't have made it an 8 a.m. Monday class and probably would've showed up more than 75 percent of the time (sorry Dad).
Luckily, the girl knows some French. So I just sit back and pray that she isn't having a conversation about me with someone else.
But it got me thinking about a few news and notes...
STEPPING IT UP: Bolingbrook was smoked in its three Pepsi Showdown pool play games this year. The Raiders were actually blown out by Neuqua Valley and Geneva, two of the better teams in the area this season. As I told Bolingbrook coach Jamie Clemmons at the time, playing good competition will come back to help you down the road.
Last week, Bolingbrook knocked off Sandburg - its first win over the Eagles in the program's history - and then defeated Joliet 3-1 on Thursday night. This is the same Joliet team I've said needs to up its schedule and play more teams north of the Stevenson to gain the respect it probably deserves.
In its last two games, previously unbeaten Joliet did play teams just north of the Stevenson - St. Ignatius and Bolingbrook. It went 0-1-1 in those two matches against average programs when looking at the big picture of premier programs.
Enough said.
ON THAT NOTE: I love when people say a team is having a good year just because they double-digit wins. It's the quality of wins. If you beat the lower programs to get the double-digit wins and lose to all the quality teams on your schedule, how can you have a good year?
As they say in French - ridicule!
