Break Up Eisenhower...

The best story of the Class 3A tournament right now is Eisenhower, which handed out a 4-0 spanking to Lincoln-Way Central Tuesday night in the semifinals of the H-F Sectional.

Up next for coach Dylan Shaughnessy's squad is Brother Rice, which shutout Sandburg 2-0. Tell me the last time Lincoln-Way Central and Sandburg were shutout on the same field playing against teams from the South Suburbs?

It will be interesting to see if H-F athletic director Joe Skowronski has extra security at Saturday's sectional final for the old-time soccer rivals. Skowronski was the athletic director at Eisenhower during the old heated brawls on the field when the two teams used to play one another. And yes, police were needed to calm the players and fans during those games.

The Catholics vs. the Hispanics as one coach used to refer to the annual battle.

Another storyline is the fact Shaughnessy played for Brother Rice coach Nick Markulin when he was coaching at Moraine Valley College.

Congrats Eisenhower! Dylan Shaughnessy is a class act and I hope he wins a sectional title! Good Luck! Nice win tonight... Way to go.

Here is your team from the South Side Joe. Or should I say teams? On fire... You know as well as anybody that a train can not be stopped. Eisenhower is on a rampage and Dylan has always been up there in class when it comes to coaching. If they happen to lose, will they not jump into your regular season record?????

Eisenhower is playing good, and that's great for the program - including Dylan, Cheryl and Co. But overall schedule is weak from a rankings standpoint and it hasn't played a good team in terms of rankings yet. But again, that doesn't take anything away from them. They can only control what they can. Eisenhower was in Pepsi for three years until two years ago, and they struggled. Hopefully, they are back on the rise.

I disagree about the schedule being weak? If they played in the Pepsi they would have the greatest schedule? They played many tough teams this season... SSC conference has Bremen who made the elite 8 last season and is in sectional final this year, Lemont who program pounded the gritty Fenwick team 3-0 and now won 20th game yesterday, Reavis who's program is much improved, & Argo who is very competitive year in and year out. They also played St. Joseph & University in the Reavis Tournament... Those teams are tough, right? I mean St. Joe will beat your St Viator team. Wait and see. The common theme is if you are not connected to Joe by competing in your tournament your team has to win a state title to get credit? I been able to witness Eisenhower success the past 2 seasons so maybe getting out of your tournament was the best thing they could have done. Well Done! Sectional Championship is in sight!

Put the pop down and take a nap. When you wake up with a clue, come back to me. Are you kidding me? The South Suburbs - as a whole - is the worst it has been in terms of talent level since what some longtime coaches believe to be the early 1990s or late 1980s. That takes nothing away from Eisenhower having a nice season. I'm happy for them. As I was on the phone with H-F coach Todd Elkei, who was giving me updates from the press box throughout the game, I told him it's great for the Eisenhower program. But their schedule is not tough at all in the big picture. Are you telling me Eisenhower played a schedule that is anywhere close to Naperville North, Neuqua Valley, Barrington, New Trier, Naperville North, Lyons, Downers Grove South, etc.? How about a schedule like Evanston or Lake Zurich or did they go through a sectional like Plainfield Central? Come on, let's keep some common sense here. I'm not sure how Fenwick got into the conversation, an average team that is gritty. Remember, you have to build a program and a team builds, it will improve its schedule and gain the respect it deserves. And with the coaching staff Eisenhower has, especially with one former player having played for Lincoln-Way when it was a powerhouse and played the best of the best - I'm sure they know what they are doing with the schedule.

At least I was drinking Pepsi! Ha Ha!!!!!!! I appoligize, I must have been dreaming. Eisenhower could play with those teams this year the way they are playing now. I guess you will have to wait and see. I will be there. I will be the guy sleeping in the stands with empty pepsi cans around me. Feel free to wake me if you want to talk!

Good stuff. It's a great story for Eisenhower and glad you are enjoying it.

Eisenhower have done very well for themselves this season so many congratulations to Coach Shaughnessy and his staff for preparing his side to play hard every game . The effort of their players is a credit to their school bur I'm afraid my compliments stop there.
I briefly read Coach Radz's comments in the Southtown game report.

"We really ran into a buzz saw tonight"
"Their speed is phenomenal and they are one of the best offensive teams we've seen this year "
"I cant believe this team has lost four times"

Give me a break . That's the biggest load of old codswallop I've heard all year . I dont know where Radz gets that stuff from. Again , a great performance from Eisenhower and full credit to them for the win , but I've seen this team play and they are indicative of how weak the South Suburbs is and has been for the past few years. If they get to State, and I really hope they do because they have worked so hard this year , they will get hammered by the West Suburbs teams . Their schedule is average to say the least and they are not very good technically. They have improved a lot over the last 2-3 years but they the best of a really bad bunch

I will probably get vilified for these comments but so be it . I hope I'm wrong.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it's a duck . Don't make this team out to be something it's not .

You don't do the players any favors at all.

Have you seen Eisenhower play Joe?

For a half against Bremen as I was headed to another game. There are numerous places I go just to watch throughout the year and never report on, just to see a player or two. I was there to see a Bremen player.

lets be real here.. the program is weak and the coaching represents that weakness. Eisenhower once was a powerhouse that people dreaded playing, Coach José Barrientos trained those kids like no one else.
.. Nowadays if the coach's spent half as much time bitchin and complaining about calls and directed that energy into training the kids..it would be a ten fold result. Show them some new tactics..the kids already have the technique from club training and it shows on the field when they are in a 1 v 1 situation..

good luck to the Eisenhower boys..hope you can keep your heads together and come out with a win this Sat.

Barrientos?????Hahahahaha....He had talent on his teams. He didnt know how to instill discipline and thats why they never moved on past sectionals. If he is such a great coach, then why didnt Richards ever get out of the play in games? Trained em.....hahahahaha

To the guy who says this stupid quote

"lets be real here.. the program is weak and the coaching represents that weakness. Eisenhower once was a powerhouse that people dreaded playing, Coach José Barrientos trained those kids like no one else."

Barrientos, who cares about him anyway? He did nothing with that team and did nothing at Richards and last I knew he was at AG science doing the same thing he done all along.

Give Eisenhower credit for a great season! As far as officials go... Worst i have seen in 5 years... Thats why coaches continue to yell. Do you job, run around, and call a fair game and noone gets yelled at. These guys are all tools looking to make an extra buck. There are a few good ones but lets be honest its HS soccer and it is slim pickings when it comes down to realible guys. I feel for the athletes at the respective schools who continue to have the seasons end on such horrible decisions by refs!

Congrats to Eisenhower and Lemont for their seasons. They represented the conference(and the south sied of Chicago) well!
