Vanessa DiBernardo, Waubonsie Valley
Nicole Lipp, Lake Forest
Rachel Quon, Lake Forest
Allison Suhey, Loyola
Jannelle Flaws, Glenbrook South

Remember this is a three-month award - what did they do this year? Not in club, not last year, not what awards they've won. This is from Day 1 of the high school soccer season.

In my book, there is a clear-cut winner. Really, this was the easiest choice in my 14 years.

My vote is for Vanessa DiBernardo. Since she was a freshman, she has stood out for Waubonsie. Her numbers this year were very impressive, with 16 goals and 13 assists. She is definitely deserving this year for Player of the Year.

"When it comes to Ms. Clutch, Allison Suhey from Loyola stands heads and tails above everyone else - hands down".Your previous comment from wednesday night live might give it away. All good choices though.

To be a Player of the Year in any sport, you have to be much more than clutch.

I saw 5 of the 7 that were listed play this year and it would be difficult to choose between any of them.

Tough choice here. Based on performance the last 3 months and not club, Tony Kokenis. Tony supplied game winning goals for her team during the state tournament. She led the team in scoring and was the key to winning the state title.
She was named to the IHSA Coaches first team all-state team. That is what players of the year do.

Toni had a great year, but it's a regular-season award.

Joe - It is July 8th and the West Suburban Conference (which as you well know includes this year's 3A State Champ HC)has still not announced its 2009 all conference players. Is that unusual in your experience? I could not find any contact info fot the WSC so thought I would see if you had any insight or suggestions about why this has not been announced long ago. Thanks.
