| | Comments (5) | TrackBacks (0)

The start of the 2010 high school boys soccer season is less than 60 days ahead.

Who should be ranked No. 1, who will be the surprise team and who will be some of the top players this fall?

I think the better programs will put together the better teams. I find this true an most sports and it isn't suprising.
The most valuable players to their teams is still up in the air. Sure the "Ranked" Players will show up, some will have better than expected years and others will be dissapointed with the way the year turns out. Some players will be in positions that they havn't played before as the coaches shuffle personel to use what they have, in total, to the best team assignments.
Some kids will have breakout years. Some teams will come out of nowhere.
Sounds like the "same old same old" with a fresh face and endless posibilities.
Notice that I havn't put myself out on a limb, I won't, but I am listening and wondering who the "Guru" is who is willing to take a guess.

I am bias but watch out for Lake Zurich. They bring back a solid core of players with a wealth of experience. Look for them to be downstate this year.

Neuqua Valley have a strong team returning led by Brian Ciesiulka,Scotty Davis,Pat Doody and Jack Turanchik.Notable others include Nate Freed,Brandon Loncar (should have a breakout year under new coach Tony Kees) Will Butler,Sammy Al-Qady,Tommy Terlep,Robby Lien,Scotty Blaszak,Tyler Flatt and Zac Kovacek. Most of these players either starred or were at least blooded on NV's run to State finals last year. The JV team went 22-1-1.
The talent level at sophmore level and below looks thin so this could be Neuqua's last good shot at a Boys State title for a while.Tony Kees will have to deliver some form of success in his first year to meet the very high expectations of this program. The early word is that he's a good coach but his communication skills with the program at large have been very poor.Apparently he's been very good, perhaps too good, at communicating with only a few so far.....
Never smart to alienate the larger program.
It should be an interesting season.

How about the small schools? Winnebago/Gibault still the 'class' of that class?

I agree with some of EG's comments but my kid loved what he's seen so far.Yup one or two e-mails missed but understandable as the new coach builds his program. It's always difficult to evaluate 9th and 10th grade talent levels, puberty and general goofiness is still a factor.
I think LZ is a definite threat,New Trier will always be good. Do not overlook Waubonsee Valley either. They gave NV a good run last year.
