Monday Morning Kickoff...

coachlogo.jpgI've always been pretty easy to get in touch with. People know my email, my cell and I'm kind of hard to miss standing on the sidelines at 6-foot-5 with the trademark Nike hat on.

And to a fault, I respond to emails quick and even respond in the middle of the night if I wake up and look at the blackberry. But with that said, I will say I opened myself up to every person in the world when I posted my personal email address here last week.

Mercy.

I think I'm still spinning from the Public League parent from Payton nailing me on Friday for not supporting the Public League. If I haven't supported the Public League and gone to bat for the coaches, kids and teams - I want to know who has? For that comment, this parent wins a first-class ticket to wear the 'Attitude' costume at the IHSA tournament finals. Congrats.

Mercy.

With that said, let's get back to the issues. And yes, there will be news and notes throughout the day, a club tryout update and a little Q&A from an area player.

Champs.JPG*Stagg coach Mike Kealy sent this to me, and there's no doubt this freshman athlete deserves some spotlight today and much more in the future. The days of a three-sport athlete are basically dead, but a four-sport athlete?

"Joe, I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing a story on one of Stagg's freshmen student-athletes. Her name is Sarah Mussallem and she is a forward on the varsity soccer team as well as a sprinter on the track team. She just won sectionals in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.6 (unadjusted) to qualify for state. In addition, she is a member of the girls volleyball team as well as the Stagg/Sandburg Co-Op gymnastics team. She also plays for the Orland Park Soccer Club.

"Furthermore, Sarah has a 4.0 GPA, is a great kid and is very coachable."

*I was talking with new Lincoln-Way West coach Ryan McAllister. He played at Lincoln-Way when it was one program, and now the district has split to four schools. Great guy, great family. But here's a reality check - he only had 21 kids come out for soccer this past fall. With only 900 kids in the school, the Warriors will be a Class 2A school for awhile.

*Fenwick coach Chris Ritcher - "(Loyola's Allison) Suhey is clearly unreal. She is the clutchest player in high school I think. For St. Ignatius, I don't know which one you'd call best, but there are probably four of the top 33 on that roster. I can't even imagine that team without injuries. What a miserable job you signed yourself up for. When I went through my rosters from the season just now, wow, a lot of good players."

*The Fifth Annual Commit-Ted Golf Outing for Juvenile Diabetes is slated for June 27 in New Lenox. Additional information may be obtained by visiting commit-ted.com.

*Fenwick is searching for a couple boys varsity games for the fall. Contact coach Robert Watson at rlwatson19@hotmail.com.

*Congrats to the under-14 Grayslake Galaxy boys (right). They won the Lakers Classic Soccer Tournament this past weekend in Lake Geneva.
