Joe - thank you for all your coverage this year. Can you tell me why the I.H.S.A. did not allow the Bartlett and Conant game to continue today? I think this was very unfair. Thank you again for your time.

trost who is your pick to win the state title in 2A????

Mr. Trost,
Are you havin a summer all star game?

Joe thank you for all you have done and all you do. What do you think of Beth Sauser from the IHSA?

signing up for live talk...

To the IHSA's credit, this unfair rule has been in place - so it is well known. It doesn't make sense why the IHSA won't let a playoff game be finished. But according to the rule, if the game starts the second half and is called because of weather - it is complete if one team is winning. Welcome to the lovely IHSA.

The heavy favorite is Althoff. Locally, Wheaton Academy has the talent and played a strong schedule to win.

Hi Joe,

Great job this year. I'm curious why you you didn't get to the Bartlett or Jacobs sectionals? Sort of makes us feel like inferior - especially when there was one regional in the Jacobs Sectional that was absolutely stacked for a regional.

Bob

I can only be in so many places at once. With the Sun-Times News Group (STNG), we are able to cover as many games as possible - more than any other paper/site around. I made sure we had someone at the Bartlett Sectional yesterday. A lot of teams, a lot of games.

Well, if in the Jacobs regional, Huntley was behind 1-0 when lightening delayed for over 1 hour. When play started again, Huntley scored with 9 min left and then won in OT. So, there is an example of you never know what might happen. Its a bad or unfair rule...as you stated.

While I had hope to have something in place for this year, I am looking at next summer for a Midwest event in Culver, In. I am currently speaking with a number of college coaches about a couple things. This will be a team building/showcase event.

Beth is a good person, who is in a tough position. It's not an easy role, because of the 101 hurdles. I'll leave it at that.

Joe,

I understand. I just met why didn't you get a blog started for each of the 8 sectionals. You did get to some of them, but not all. No matter. Looks like it is Huntley vs Barrington for final. Winner will have Geneva or Conant. Kind of odd that St. Charles North is out in what I think was the easiest Sectional and Huntley is still alive after winning out of a very difficult Regional. Would have liked to have seen the Huntley / CG match be in Sectionals vs Regional. CG has a very good team.

who is the best player you have seen this year??

Also, didn't you have a showcase in Nov last year? Is something like that being planned this year?

Cary-Grove had a very good team, and yes, Huntley had solid road. I did the top three sectionals, and to be honest, the Libertyville one would've been the next one I focused on. But I felt like Bolingbrook, Evanston and St. Ignatius were interesting because of matchups. Barrington and Huntley is a solid matchup. Geneva beating St. Charles North isn't a huge upset. Geneva is a good program. I made sure we covered that game, because I felt like it was a trap game for the North Stars.

I have seen a lot of good players this year. When it comes to Ms. Clutch, Allison Suhey from Loyola stands heads and tails above everyone else - hands down.

When will you name your all area teams?

All-Area Team, as is the case every year, will be named the last Friday of the season.

RE Bartlett--coaches know the the IHSA rule, know that the official doesn't make that call, and instruct the players that it is important to be in the lead if bad weather hits. It's a known quantity...not a surprise.

You always want the delay before the half if you are losing, at or after halftime if you are winning.

Still a crummy way to lose.

OK everyone, thank you for responding. I'm going to close the board as the traffic has slowed. This was a test to see how this worked, and it was a good start. Enjoy the games and get out and support the finals. TROST
