Lewers and Coderre Just One Area Duo...

| | Comments (6) | TrackBacks (0)

mel.jpgFor the past two years, Kelly Lewers and Melanie Coderre (left) have been the one-two punch for Homewood-Flossmoor.

After Coderre led the Vikings with 27 goals a year ago and Lewers added 21, the duo has raised the bar this spring. Lewers leads the way with 30 goals, while Coderre recorded her 25th tally during a 2-1 win over Andrew on Wednesday night.

Coach Todd Elkei's crew has played in two of the most competitive tournaments around this season - the Pepsi Showdown and adidas Tournament of Champions - and is the heavy favorite to represent the South Suburbs in the IHSA finals at North Central College next month.

So with this in mind, what other area duos come to mind? From Waubonsie Valley's Bri Rodriguez and Vanessa DiBernardo to Lake Forest's Nicole Lipp and Rachel Quon there are a number of powerful one-two punches.

Who deserves some praise?

The best part about this duo is that the girls respect each other so much on the field and are such good friends off the field!

Shemky and Whittinghill from Maine Sourth come to mind.

Wronski and anyone from Huntley...

Anderson twins from Cary (or Sally Tasjian and either twin)

Mecko and Ross from Crystal Lake South (when healthy -- seems like Ross has been playing hurt each time I've been at one of their games she's had what appears to be heavy wrapping around the upper thigh area...still very good player, but just not the same impact)

--These are top pairs in the Fox Valley only

Huntley Red Raiders Junior Cori Wronski (24 goals 9 assists) and her sister Sophmore Aimee Wronski (15 goals 13 assists)are a nice pair!

As much as I want to agree with Mrs. Coderre... but I will say the best part about the Coderre / Lewers dynamic duo is that they make the players around them better by leading by example. HF is a very young team (only 3 starting seniors) but has managed to have an outstanding season (19-3) due to the leadership of these two young ladies, who are underclassmen them selves.
We all like to see great stats and these two certainly have them…but what you don’t see are the qualities that make Coderre and Lewers good citizens of soccer and the community around them.

How about Huntley's sisters Corinne and Aimee Wronski with their 50 goals between the two of them for the 19-1-1 Red Raiders!
