Here is an email I received. Please take a moment to read and help:
"Hi, My name's Kasia Szymanska, and I'm a senior at Elmwood Park High School. I got your email address from Mr. Ryan Kearns, the girls soccer coach. I'm writing to you because the Social Studies Club I'm in charge of is planning on conducting a collection for the kids of Afghanistan, and we might need your assistance. The club sponsor's brother is currently serving in Afghanistan, and he mentioned to the club sponsor multiple times that the Afghani kids always ask the soldiers for soccer balls, which is what we want to collect and send over to Afghanistan. Since you were partly in charge of the Pepsi Showdown that took place at my school, we thought you might be able to help us somehow? We're trying to look for some donors, and thought that maybe the Pepsi Showdown would be able to help. Hope you'll be able to help us out. Thank you for your time, Kasia Szymanska"
Please send any donations by May 30 - one, two or 10, used or new soccer balls - to: Elmwood Park High School, attn: Ryan Kearns, 8201 W. Fullerton Ave., Elmwood Park, IL 60707.

Thanks Joe for the press! We will send any and all balls and cleats that come our way, whether its 10 or 10,000. If you would like to save on shipping and you are close to Elmwood Park shoot me an email and I will swing by and pick everything up. Thanks in advance.
Ryan Kearns
Elmwood Park Soccer
We did this a few years back when I had a relative over there. It was extremely welcomed by the troops. They told us the story about how they would do low fly overs in helicopters and kids would throw rocks at them; but once they started dropping soccer balls out, the kids couldn't wait to see them. Universal Sport! I wish I could paste in one of my favorite pictures--one of our soldiers surrounded by the flood of soccer balls that everyone sent! (Joe--let me know if there's a way to get you the pics!) Good Luck--keep up the good work!
We have about 100 balls that could not be used.
Some of the balls do not hold air because of manufacture defect. We will be more then happy to part with the Soccer balls. We live in Mundelein and we will be moving on 10/19/2009.
So we need to get rid of them very soon.
