Leah Fortune (left), senior at Wheaton Academy and 2009 Sun-Times Preseason Player of the Year, will blog each Monday right here throughout the spring season. Here is her third entry:
"This is it. This is Life. This is not a test. This is not a dress rehearsal. What we do now will echo in the corridors of eternity. The only moment we have is now. Now is the Time to Live, To Love, and To be Free." Jim Donavon
November of last year I did not have the opportunity to sit around the dining table and celebrate one of the most popular holidays in America, known as Thanksgiving. The purpose of Thanksgiving I have learned over the years is to better understand the importance of family and spending time with the people you love.
The purpose of Thanksgiving I have learned over the years is to better understand the importance of family and spending time with the people you love. Throughout high school I have come to understand how interdependent we are as humans. Relationships are one of the most valuable gifts God has given us and something that despite all challenges should never be taken for granted.
As many of you know, I am a member of the U20 Brazilian National Team. Last year I had the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving Day in Brazil with my U20 Team. Since Brazil does not celebrate Thanksgiving Day (for obvious reasons ☺) in Brazil, it was an ordinary day, a routine dinner, with the same group of girls. Over time, I have come to realize that those girls became my family.
On Sunday, I boarded a plane to meet a new group of girls, well actually women. The Lord has given me this amazing opportunity. I have been invited to the Brazil Women's National Team camp. Picturing myself on the same field as Marta, Christiane and Formiga is extremely intimidating and frightening for me. One thing I am sure of though, is that I will do the best I can to encourage, pray, support, talk to, learn from, and possibly challenge these remarkable women.... and build relationships.
Wherever the Lord decides to take me I will run after him. Now is the time to Live, Love and be Free. Your support, encouragement and prayers for me will mean more than words can express. I would not be able to do what I do without the family and friends I have back home. Feel free to write me and ask any questions.
God Bless.
Christ in Me,
Leah Fortune

Congratulations!
Just a few questions...
1. What kind of conditioning does the team do and how would you compare it to high school? I remember we would run and run and run with high school but then club was always touches on the ball and small sided games to help get us in shape.
2. What advice would you give any young female that has been cut or injured in their early high school years?
Hi Leah.
At Taylor, I am fortunate to coach one of your former teammates - Jordyn Kight from Wheaton Academy. Next year, we are adding Natalie Cullen from WA to the team. They have both made me aware of you, and we all join in wishing you success and a great witness to your BWNT teammates.
