One of the greatest things about being in the position I'm in is that I get to meet some great people. From coaches, kids, parents and yes, even people in the IHSA and Public League offices.
There are so many people out there giving countless hours to improve the lives of so many kids, and that at times is forgot in today's society.
One of those people is Jim Wolter.
After close to three decades as head boys soccer coach at Glenbrook South, Jim Wolter has decided to retire. Wolter spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at Deerfield and Highland Park before heading to Glenbrook South.
Think about it folks - Wolter has had an impact and coached more than 500 players and won more than 250 games.
"I feel very fortunate for the last six years to be on his coaching staff, to be his friend, and certainly my mentor in the coaching profession as I learn and observe on the girls side," Glenbrook South girls soccer coach Seong Ha said. "You try to find your own niche, style and philosophy, but it is difficult to believe he will be gone after this season as the head coach of this great school.
"Some great players have gone by and certainly battling with the likes of Glenbrook North, Highland Park, Deerfield, Niles North, Maine East, Maine West, Waukegan, Niles West, Maine South, Evanston and New Trier every season have made it challenging for him. But Jim always took every challenge head on, never flinched, and certainly gained a lot of respect from his peers as a good tactician."
Take a bow, Jim. They are giving you the standing ovation you deserve.

Who will replace Jim at GBS? How do varsity vacancies get filled?
Classiest coach out there, but more importantly, a fine person! It has been my pleasure to blow the whistle for his games the last 14 years.
Coach Ha has some big shoes to fill.
BRAVO and good luck.
I couldn't agree more!! Jim eats, sleeps, dreams, and sweats the word class. Hats off to you, Jim. Best of luck.
Hi SoccerRef, I am writing an article about Coach Jim Wolter for our school newspaper and I was wondering if there is any way I would be able to quote you? Thank you.
