You read these type of stories every year, the same I'm thankful for this and thankful for that.
It shouldn't take a so-called special day on the calendar for people to be thankful. Holidays are great, but at times people forget there are hundreds of days throughout the year when you can be just as thankful or celebrate. Each time a soccer player goes to practice and steps on a field, he or she should be thankful. Every coach and parent should be just as thankful to be there for that moment.
Christ, I'm thankful to be here writing this at this moment.
Enjoy the holiday, but remember the feeling on Friday, in January and next summer.
Tomorrow, as they say, is never promised.

Joe,
You forgot to mention how thankful you are to the IHSA.
If not for that organization, you would be without someone to complain and moan about, especially about the weather being to cold to play.
That is true, I am thankful for the IHSA. I'll be even more thankful when they get someone on staff that has a soccer background. But then again, I'll be thankful, too, when soccer officials have to do more than take an open-book test to be cert. in some cases.
Maybe the officials should have to take fitness test too.
Maybe we could get the referees to take a fitness test? But that would only increase the shortage of available referees.
Joe for the last 2 years i have enjoyed this site...you think they could get your name right given all the stuff you do for soccer..Joe TROUST..maybe the TRibune needs to hire you away from the suntimes
Nice! Have to jog across the street to work up the heart rate and look for my rule book now.
There will be fitter and better refs in the future. As the popularity of soccer has boomed, so has the recuitment possibilities for refs boomed. With younger and more experienced players becomming older let us hope that many of them give reffing a try. Let us also hope that ther is a mechanism that will grade the refs and let the most talented ones keep working the games. The illusion that experience refs are more capable than the younger men and women that had more experience playing is dangerous.
