So just who is the No. 1 team?
Monday morning thoughts... »
« State title to reside in Naperville?

Naperville Central coach Jay Konrad called today and gave me a hard time for not releasing the complete Top 10 all at once.

"Trost, are you waiting for someone to play," Konrad asked.

"No," I told him. "It's called a teaser."

And with that, let's look at a few more teams in the preseason Top 10.

4. Geneva - Sloan, Spurgin, McCabe, Peniak and Carmany the five to watch

5. Lyons - Powerful 1-2 punch: Billy McGuinness and Chris Meingast

6. Lake Zurich - Taao Scarnato is one of the top goalies around

So who will be No. 1? The complete Top 10, preview and players to watch will be released on Thursday.

Until then, enjoy the teaser.

- Joe Trost

Now that Dave's gone I guess you are the only guy in town on High school soccer? Heavy burden to carry. Nice photo by the way in the earlier post below! I agree with your top ten, but maybe not the order. On paper, LZ should be really good but I don't think they'll hold up. Nap central #1? Yeah they got Garza and Prince and Zimmer but beyond that? Maddi? Nah. (BTW-the fact that Prince and Garza did not make the Tribune's "players to watch" is a bit of a joke). IDK. We'll see shortly as Neuqua and Nap Central appear headed for the championship game in the Best of the West tourney. I'd say Neuqua will win that one..... Geneva? Nah. LT? Nah.
New Trier is far and away better than any team in your top 10, and I say that not as a New Trier fan. Should be a good season with a lot of parity. See you out there Joe......

Oh, and Joe, your Players to Watch list was kind of lame and not well put together.... Looks like you just went through a list of teams in Chicago and took the best player off that team and put him on the list. Sorry but that's a lazy way to do it. I know about 15 players off the top of my head not on the list that should be there, no question.

Oh, and just as an update, Bret Hruby doesn't play for Neuqua anymore, although I am sure they wish he did. He's a UIC flame this year.....

thanks and keep up the good work...(i guess)

There is a difference between a Players To Watch list and the Top 50 players. Reading (and understanding) is a skill.

No, I'm sorry Joe. Let's not get into semantics (i know, a big word for you). If there were "players to watch", I personnally would want to watch the best players - not the best players for Reavis, or Juarez or Amundsen (not disrespect to those schools BTW) - but the BEST players, period. And several of those best players are not on your list. That's my point - get it? oh, and are the "players to watch" also in college now too (Hruby)?? Maybe we should expand the list to include college freshmen we "would like to still see playing high school"??? You're a riot Joe, and keep up the good work! Too bad the "best" teams aren't in your Pepsi tourney, huh?

Thanks for reading!

Hey little do you know the best players from Reavis are just as good as any players from anywhere from the state. You guys should watch out for Reavis this year they are full of talent with many starters returning from last year. You should watch out for midfielder Mario Waksmundzki, Reavis, sr, and Chris Cupp, Reavis, jr.

Hey Joe, I think you need to rethink your comment above on Jerry Maddi! I sat and watched stunned at the Best of the West championship game, with the rest of the crowd, as Coach Conrad and the team trainer drug Maddi off the field. Broken Leg? Ankle? worse? Then with about 5 minutes to go in the game, look who comes back into the game! "Welcome back Jerry", I heard one of the Central parents say. If he's not one of the top players in the state, then he is certainly one of the top when it comes to having heart for the game!!! I think he's going to be one of the deciding factors as to weather the state chamionship "Stays in Naperville" or not. Congratulations to Naperville Central for solidifying it's number one possition. Oh and by the way, there was some amazing goal keeping on both ends of the field. Congrats to Tyler and Jack!!!

I heard that Jerry Maddi is going to play at Michigan State - He is one of the best players I have seen play.
He controls the game at Midfield and is extremely pyhsical. You need to rethink you comments about Maddi, and realize he makes Garza and Prince better playes.

HELLO matt dervin is a good 3rd player!!
