Guzan blog: U.S. Soccer Team moves to Olympic Village

« Guzan blog: Opening Ceremonies will never be forgotten

Former Providence and Chicago Magic star Brad Guzan, goalie for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team, will blog throughout the Summer Games in China. And the only place you'll be able to find it is right here.

With that said, here's Guzan's fifth blog...

We have just moved from our hotel in Tianjin to the Olympic Village in Beijing.

To give you a visual, we are basically staying in college dorms with no TV and no internet. I wrote this blog from my blackberry. Because we are only here for a few days, they put us (along with the four other soccer teams) in temporary "pods" and not by the rest of the U.S. athletes. The village is pretty cool, as there are mini restaurants throughout and there are massive game rooms, convenient stores to buy odds and ends, an Olympic gift shop and little cafes to just hang out.

Just walking to the dining center, which serves all types of food, we are constantly seeing other athletes from around the world.

Because of our result the other night - a 2-2 with Holland - we know that we need to tie or win against Nigeria in our game on Wednesday. Even though it was a disappointing way to tie the game, we are still very confident in our abilities as a team and in each other. We will definitely be ready for the game and will look to move on to the quarterfinals.

Many people never gave us a chance to advance, let alone get first place in our group. So we are ready to prove to the world that the U.S. has talented footballers and can be successful on the world's stage.

Like I said before, my family is over and they have all been taking in the Chinese culture. They have been to all of the tourist's spots and have even been to some markets where they sell "the gross foods that people eat on fear factor or the stuff you see on the discovery channel." I don't know how else to describe it. And, YES, they did try it!

Well I've got to run for now, but will check back soon.

Until next time,
Brad Guzan

Blackberry??? No comment. Keep up the good work buddy. The game against Holland was very exciting, and lets just say Chance almost went through the glass door in the 93rd minute :) I will be watching tomorrow, yes at 4am i will be up. To say we are Proud has become redundant, but we are, and i can not say i have ever looked forward to waking up at 4am, but for you and the US soccer team, I am! #18 on the roster, but #1 in your hearts!
