Former Providence and Chicago Magic star Brad Guzan, goalie for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team, will blog throughout the Summer Games in China. And the only place you'll be able to find it is right here.
With that said, here's Guzan's final blog...
Well I am back for the last posting as our Olympic journey has come to an end. Unfortunately, we lost our final game 2-1 against Nigeria after playing almost the entire game down a man. One of our defenders received a red card in the fourth minute and we knew it was going to be an uphill battle from there. I can't explain how proud I am of my teammates and how are relationships together got stronger with each day. Especially after all the criticism from the international media saying that we did not have a chance and that we had no business in that group, I think we showed the world that the U.S. has some young footballers that can play the game with the best countries in the world. We know that we left everything we had on the field and have no regrets...that's all we wanted when going into the last game.
I want to thank all the people that made our stay in China very enjoyable...everyone from the USOC staff to our team liaison, Henry, and definitely our team staff member. It's never easy going to a foreign country for weeks on end, but when you have a great staff to make the transition, it is much easier. The entire process of going through processing in San Francisco all the way to the flight back home is something that we will never forget and are extremely grateful for all the support. Even though our journey has ended
there are still plenty of American athletes still competing and I want to wish them the best of luck!
As for me, my next stop will be Guatemala for the U.S. Men's US National Team World Cup Qualifier, which will be Wednesday and then off to England to start to training with my new club team, Aston Villa.
If you have any specific questions for me, just let me know I will try to get back to you ASAP. I will check it every now and then and try to stay up to date.
Thank you again!
One World, One Dream!
