Glenbrook South puts an end to New Trier's consecutive state run. Homewood-Flossmoor and St. Ignatius are back in the same spot, can they take the next step?
Hersey beats Fremd for the third time to advance to Monday's round of 16, and Lemont also moved on. Waubonsie is back in the super again - surprise, surprise. Last year, it was St. Charles East. This year, it's St. Charles North in its way.
Downers South sent the IHSA a thank you card for moving it out of the Naperville-area sectional, and the Mustangs are hoping to give coach Barry Jacobson - Mr. 400 - his first state crown.
Of the six area supersectionals, six of the remaining 12 teams in those games played in the Pepsi Showdown this past April.
And maybe come Monday, the warm weather will finally arrive and stick around for more than 12 hours.

Seems to be big prep news when New Trier does something and real quiet in the newspapers when they get beat. Sorry New Trier Soccer team.... there's always next year.
Fremd beat Hersey in the 4th overtime..only the referee erroneously called Fremd offsides. When presented with a tape of the game, clearly showing it was a Hersey player who headed the ball towards her own goal off the Fremd free kick, to his credit the referee apologized for his error. But what do you say to the Fremd players, especially the 9 seniors, who's high school careers came to end and were denied a chance to return to the state finals? What a shame.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but when presented with a tape of the game, clearly a hersey player never touched the ball, and both fremd players were offsides. I'm sorry that you received erroneous information. And what would I say to the fremd players who's high school careers came to and end? Nothing, because every senior's high school career ends, theirs just ended sooner than what they're use to. But hey, go ahead and complain about the call, it wont change the fact that fremd never got to play in that supersectional final game. There are always going to be controversial calls, and complaining about it afterwards only shows a lack of class.
Off the Fremd free kick, the Hersey player headed the ball backwards towards her own goal. You either do not understand the rules of the game, or you did not see the tape. The referee himself apologized for the bad call. The facts are the facts. At least the ref showed some class in admitting his mistake. To take a hard fought victory away from a team that deserved to advance is just plain wrong. Joe Trost, would you like the tape of the play so your readers can see the truth?
That's exactly what it was, a hard fought victory that went to Hersey. "To take a hard fought victory away from a team that deserved to advance is just plain wrong." And if you truely believe a hersey player knocked the ball in, a calls still a call, nothings going to change that. You see it all the time in baseball, its part of the game, but you must not understand that. At the end of the night, Hersey advanced and fremd didnt. The facts are the facts.
Ah yes, but now you are changing the topic. There is no denying Fremd legitimately won the game. Now the entire soccer community can see it on YouTube. Search "Fremd Wins in 4th OT". The video does not lie. The Hersey player clearly headed the ball backwards toward her own goal off the free kick. The Fremd player then headed it in. No offsides - read the rules.
if there was an offsides call and they had it on tape..why not send it into the ihsa and appeal hersey's apparent faulty win and have fremd advance into the supersectional game..because it's on tape but it never happened..
i marked the FREMD player that headed the ball forward
to the offsides forward...clearly you were at fault or the ref would have gotten it correct
and also--how can you sit here and argue the offsides call to not recall the wish-washy call awarded to fremd at the top of hersey's box with 2:20 remaining in the game..if we're talking about controversial calls changing games--look no further
your season ended that night..you have the tape and if it proved something then you would have sent it in
SO MUCH FOR FREMD WINNING THE SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
alex ehr/alison noremberg are the only classy people on that team
I was a soccer referee for over 20 years, now retired. I don't know either of the teams or players involved in this play. I cannot tell you how many times fans, players, and even coaches, have screamed from the sidelines demonstrating a lack of knowledge of soccer rules. However, this is not one of those occasions. I viewed the video in question and the players in white, although in the off-sides position, were not offsides. There is a big difference. While I'm sure the player in orange desired result was to head the ball away from her own goal off the free kick, she did in fact make a play that caused the ball to travel toward her own goal. So even though two players in white were in the offsides position, they were not offsides. The ball was not played by a teammate in white. Law 11 addresses this situation. The goal should have counted.
To the girl who claims to have been on the field marking the "Fremd player that headed the ball forward to the offsides forward", did you even look at the video? The hersey player headed the ball off the free kick. There is no denying that. Were you the player that headed the ball?
None of this even matters because guess what, at the end of the night fremd lost. You cant change that. Sure go ahead show the video to people who could care less, go ahead and complain that you lost, go ahead and show a lack of class, its not going to change anything. You should have beaten hersey in penalty kicks, and had you done that, then you would have advanced...end of story. And hey, maybe the goal should have counted, and maybe it shouldnt have, but a calls a call. Deal with it, because, I mean you did win the "sportsmanship award"...
I see the girl who posted on June 6th at 5:08 PM named herself appropriately. Fremd won the game and deserved to advance.
fremd won
all I have to say is...
3 TIMES!
2 times, then a loss when it mattered. The video does not lie.
