Time to promote the sport, the programs and the players

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

Some people called me crazy for wanting to start a 32-team high school boys and girls soccer tournament. Some have said I'm nuts when I say they will expand to 64 teams (it's only a matter of time).

But now here's something else that will be part of future Pepsi Showdowns, which are presented by the Chicago Sun-Times - a local club tournament, at the same time and location.

The Pepsi Showdowns were created to promote the sport, the programs and most of all the players. While others will continue to fight over high school vs. club, the Pepsi Showdowns will promote the sport, the programs and most of all the players.

Stay tuned, because it's only the beginning of exciting things to come with the Pepsi Showdowns - http://www.pepsishowdown.us

Joe,

You have me intrigued, I hope this means you will host a boys club tournament in the spring to go along with the girl's HS tournament and then host a girl's club in the fall to go along with the boy's HS tournament.

If you host a boy's club tournament in the fall during the boys HS tournament, you are only adding fuel to fire and not helping your side of the HS vs club debate. However, it might be interesting to see the winner of the HS tournaments to take on the winner of the club tournaments... just a thought.

TROST RESPONDS: Stay tuned, good stuff to come. High school coaches are excited about it, as are club coaches.

Something that both HS coaches and club coaches are excited about..............Well , there's a first .

Could it be that we're seeing a "combo" toornament played in the summer where a mixture of club and high school teams play a "Showdown" format instead of Summer League games ????

Hmmmm.................

TROST RESPONDS: That's not a bad idea actually, but nope - these will be in the fall and spring. Stay tuned.
