Anyone who knows me well will tell you I am not a big fan of message boards and blogs.
But this is the new society we live in.
When used correctly, message boards and blogs can bring an issue to the forefront and hopefully spark some change - at least some conversation. But more times than not, we have people hiding behind their computers with fake names or no names at all. One word for that - gutless.
When I wrote a blog earlier this week regarding an issue of a coach letting his program down with the media, everyone knew who penned the blog - Joe Trost. People can email, people can call, people can approach me about the blog subject. Why? Because they knew who wrote it.
It bothered me from the start when I saw some of the responses to the blog. No names, fake names, people being gutless nailing this coach. That wasn't the purpose of the blog, and that was why at first I didn't want to post any responses. But I was told I should, and I did.
But this morning, from Arizona, I have decide this is not right. It's not right to allow someone to hide behind a fake name or no name and say things.
I took down each one of the commnets. This is not an area to start rumors or act like a spoiled parent, player or fan. If you have a personal problem with someone, approach the source of the problem and show some respect. If you want to use this forum, that's fine...to a point.
At least use a real name.

If you as a soccer reporter would stick to reporting on the games, everyone would be much happier. High school sports are about the kids, not YOU or the coaches.
How about a story about the 14 or 15 girls from the southside at SXU? How about a story about a Minooka? What an exciting team to watch! Doesn't Andrew deserve something? They are growing a great program. You would write about Kolinatis. You should know that the Andrew kids are coached by a former all sectional player and college player from the southside just like him.
But you would rather take a shot at someone because you felt slighted because they don't talk to you.
TROST RESPONDS: I was not taking a shot, stating the same facts other reporters have complained about for years to the Lincoln-Way adminstration. Don't believe me, ask Ted Robbins or Joel Pallissard. Here is the number: 815-462-2322. As a former Lincoln-Way Central staff coach, you know the number.
Also, Nick Kolinatis isn't coaching at Andrew any longer. So your comment doesn't make sense.
You are mistaken if you think you KNOW Dan Radz. He's one of the most ethical coaches out there and the High Schools need more people like him. It's not all about the awards that kids get or don't get....it's about teaching kids that they need to be held accountable for bad decisions, and praised for making good ones. It's about encouraging kids to work hard, leave it on the field and be a respectable person when all is said and done. Dan did NOT deserve this. The people that agree with you and think that awards are "it" may be trying to live through their kids. Dan goes above and beyond what a coach is required to do....he actually CARES about the athletes....not just the winning and awards. How many successful programs can say that their coach is actually a good guy? None! Usually successful programs have jerks as coaches and that's not Dan. Your article was absolutely CRAZY!!! What were you thinking when you wrote this?
You owe him and his family an apoligy and with Dan's great heart, he would even forgive you. You have slandered a nice family....WHY??! Surely you could find something else worthy of writing about. Central has a blessing in Radz as their coach!
TROST RESPONDS: As many coaches, former co-workers and current co-workers have noted - as did I - this is not about coaching. This is about promoting a sport within the community and with the media. As myself and numerous other reporters have noted with the District 210 adminstration, something is not right. Don't let the so-called truth get in the way of the facts.
I am the only person on this whole board that actually uses there name.
What I find most amazing is that no one has said the facts of the story were wrong? If this coach didn't do his job, he let his players down and should be fired. If he did do this stuff, why doesn't he speak up? Seems like you can't speak up when you know you are wrong. And Mr. Paul Schissler who are you? Do you know the facts of the story? Did this coach turn the stuff in or not? That's what we need an answer to. WHERE ARE THE ANSWERS?
Joe, I am a former 4 yr varsity player for Radz at Marian his first year and your initial blog from actual first hand experience is spot on. He was doing this at Marian. I've seen the proof (sectional/state/midwest votes). If you were a rah rah developmental player for him, you were on his "pet" list. However, if you were a true ODP selection / club player stud that actually experienced a higher level atmosphere that he never knew than forget it! He wanted no part of you nor did anything to promote you. The level of players that he had both past and present if welcomed, could teach him a level of soccer that he never imagined. Believe me speaking from first hand experience.
My own career, thank god, came from my club experience (chicago pegasus/sockers FC/ 1st chicago magic) not radz. Its pretty funny how you can get recruited from the likes of Indiana, Santa Clara, Virginia and Uconn be an ODP region II and National team pool player and not make all-state ihsa just because you have a coach that won't vote or even show up for you. I am not trying to slam him as well, I am just trying to let people understand that the level of players in this area today far exceed the levels that the high shool coachs can even comprehend. Its really sad. Back in my day there were only a few (Papa,Markulin,etc.). Its funny but the referees actually had better knowelge of the players than the coaches cause they saw them year in and year out from club to HS. That's an idea, let them vote state/midwest/american, maybe then the political BS would got out the window.
