What is the interesting storyline right now?

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

Stories, stories, stories.

1. Lyons knocks off Hinsdale Central, who beat New Trier on Saturday. Oak Park and others are rising.

2. Morton has eight players kicked off its team.

3. Gage Park and Foreman brawl last week in Public League action. Police and ambulance called to the scene. Gage Park had problems in the postseason last year, and according to Public League coaches - the Public League offices kept things covered up and quiet.

4. Pepsi Showdown final set for Sunday at Toyota Park.

Are these the most interesting storylines or are there others that should be up there?

I think it's going to be the tale of the Naperville's this season. LT has a nice team, and Oak Park and Hinsdale. But if you want to see some very good soccer, just look to Nap. Central, Nap. North, and Nequa. THOSE are some good teams. It's just a crying shame that they all have to knock each other out before State in THE most competitive sectional, hands down. New Trier will for sure make it through their sectional to State, but watch out for the winner of the Lisle Super Sectional - I think they will win State this year.

I also was interested in the story about the Fire and the IHSA and the Academy system. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude there as far as the "no high school" rule, and to see if the system lives up to its hype. The IHSA is probably reacting to various high school soccer coaches that do not want to lose their best players to the Academy system. My view -- 10 weeks of high school soccer is not going to matter one bit in the development (or lack thereof) of any top youth player. Let the players decide what they want to do and not be "forced" to only play club. Word is the Magic Academy team will NOT be prohibited from playing high school soccer. We'll see.............

I asked a player from Foreman about the brawl.
Supposedly the refs were not calling some pretty rough
fouls... leading to frustration and violence.
Foreman is on probation... any other incidents and
that is the end of their season.
