IHSA adjusts sectional assignments...a little
Hey Calvin Davis, there's more than football and basketball in the Public League »
« Should Best of the West and Barrington Tournaments switch weeks?

At the end of the day, it is better than nothing I guess.

The IHSA adjusted a couple sectionals, moving the Downers and Hinsdales of the world to a new sectional this fall. But the south suburban sectionals, a place near and dear to my heart, are now some of the worst sectionals in the state.

When it comes to the Class A and AA state finals, the IHSA has the same approach as AYSO - it doesn't care who receives a trophy, just as long as someone does.

So what do you think?

Here is a closer look at the IHSA Class AA sectional assignments:

I couldn't agree more. Those sectionals are brutal. Not to mention the now posted Lake Zurich Sectional. How do they draw these lines??? You get teams from the MSL, Fox Valley, and then Deerfield and Vernon Hills??? It doesn't make sense. ANd then Rolling Meadows and Fremd are split, when they have students who go to the same middle school before going to the different high schools based on the boundary for the districts.

They need to figure out a better system for the state playoffs, and a true seeding formula. It seems that all that really matters are seeds 1-4 anyway, because the rest is done geographically, and then you will be getting power house regional matches instead of what should be powerhouse sectional games.

Not to mention, the locations that are selected for these games needs some work as well. I saw the supersectional last year with Warren vs. Hersey at LZ and the ball was out of bounds for more time than it was in play due to its very narrow width. I know they have turf, but that doesn't make it a good soccer pitch by itself. Grayslake Central has the new turf, and done right, nice and wide from what I saw, and they got nothing... just doesn't make sense.
