They are two of the better tournaments of the year, but sadly the Best of the West and Barrington Tournaments conflict against one another. In a perfect world the tournaments would be on different weeks, allowing soccer fans from all over to attend.
Whether you believe it, there are a number of die-hard fans that attend big soccer games featuring the area's premier players and teams. So with the IHSA moving the start of soccer season up a week, should one of these tournaments move their schedule up a week?
I know, I know - it would create extra work for 16 athletic directors for one year. Trust me, I know they have a thankless job at times. But when they have a year to change a schedule and are paid as well as some are (http://thechampion.org/teachers.asp), I don't feel bad. It's part of the job to better the sport and the exposure of the tournament for the players and teams.
Should either the Best of the West or Barrington Tournament change the date of its tourney in 2008?

Perhaps the teams need to enter into the Pepsi Showdown?
The Glenbrook South Tournament this year is better than Barrington.
GBS Tournament is better than Barrington?!? Does the Barrington tournament have the best teams from Lake County (Barrington and Lake Zurich) and don't they have the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the state in their tournament? I think so. If you make statements like that, please back them up with something.
TROST RESPONDS: No. 1 ranked team is Lincoln-Way Central in the Sun-Times, and the Knights are playing in the Best of the West.
Evanston and Marmion Academy are 2 of the worst teams in the area. Lake Zurich? Their tie with Marmion was their highlight!
Lake Park Lancer Invite is up there with quality teams from the DuPage Valley Conference and MSL...
Also, a great mid-season tournament is the Bartlett tournament that brings perennial power Morton along with consistently good Carmel and up and coming Crystal Lake South and Wheeling. Jacobs also is in the tournament and is always well coached along with Bartlett who usually has a decent team.
Athletic directors are paid to schedule and reschedule events, so that is what they need to do. If they want to do these tournaments right, they would spread them out so the media can give the proper coverage and teams have equal chances of entering instead of being overbooked or having conflicts with already scheduled games.
