The Chicago Red Stars of Women's Professional Soccer signed defender Anita Asante, a member of the English National team as a free agent following the dissolution of St. Louis Athletica. She should be available next week for the team's game at Washington, pending league approval.

Asante is joining England teammates Karen Carney and Katie Chapman.

To make room for Asante, the Red Stars released midfielder Brittany Klein.
