Northwestern's five-time reigning NCAA women's lacrosse champions dominated in the second half and advanced to the title game for the sixth year in a row with a 15-10 semifinal win against North Carolina led by seniors Katrina Dowd, who had a hat trick, and Danielle Spencer, who was superb on draw controls.
NU (20-1) will face Maryland, the alma mater of Wildcats coach Kelly Amonte Hiller in Sunday's title game. Maryland beat Syracuse 14-5 in its semifinal.
The game was tied at 4 at halftime before the the Cats took control.
Sophomore goalie Brianne LoManto was also superb for NU, which lost to the Tar Heels 18-16 in Evanston on April 18.
