DePaul, Illinois in softball regional opener today at 4

College softball's "Big Dance" gets underway for No. 17 Illinois and DePaul, which is making its15th NCAA tournament appearance, and 13th in the last 14 years, in three hours.
The Blue Demons (38-16), who have won 17 of their last 19, open against the Illini (43-6) at 4 p.m. today. The winner and loser face the winner and loser of  No. 9-seeded Missouri (46-11) and Creighton (37-21) on Saturday in the double-elimination regional.

 DePaul edged Illinois 3-2 May 6 in Lincoln Park. The Illini have won 16 of their last 17 games and are led by Danielle Zymkowitz (.421, 35 steals in 36 attempts) and Meredith Hackett (.418, 15 homers, 55 RBI).
On Thursday, DePaul learned that pitchers Becca Heteniak and Bree Brown, and former Oak Park outfielder Alex Morocco were named to the All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
Morocco leads the Blue Demons in hits with 50 and is second on the team in batting average (.331), doubles (nine) and tied for second in runs scored (31). Freshman Brown, who is 16-5 with a 2.43 earned-run average, is 9-1 since April 17.
Heteniak, a four-time All-American, is 20-9 with a 1.77 ERA and is 12-1 since March 30.
