Three children die in SE Side fire
There were no working smoke detectors in a Southeast Side home where three children — a 7-month-old boy, a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl — died in a house fire this morning, authorities said.

Burris expects to be seated; ready to start fundraising Roland Burris says he expects "very shortly" to represent the state of Illinois in the U.S. Senate. The man appointed to the vacant seat by Gov. Rod Blagojevich says he expects resolution soon of the remaining issues standing in the way.

Three starters, but no Hawks as All-Star reserves The NHL announced its reserves for the Western Conference All-Star team today, with the red hot Blackhawks not landing any more spots. Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith and Nikolai Khabibulin weren’t among the 15 players selected as reserves by the NHL operations department.

Uptown Theatre in a Jam
David Roeder: Ald. Mary Ann Smith (48th) is encouraging a new deal involving control of the landmark Uptown Theatre, 4816 N. Broadway. What that means to the theater, empty for 25 years, or its current owner is anybody's guess, but Smith's move could be controversial. The Uptown's owner is concert promoter Jam Productions Inc., which with a partner put up $3.2 million last summer to get it in a foreclosure auction. Since then, Jam has battled in court over a $5 million reserve City Hall wants it to post to cover repairs.
