Here are the stories we're following today:


• Timothy Forrest, a Cook County jail guard and a small-time crook, was working for the FBI when he was killed in 2006. The Sun-Times' Kim Janssen pulls back the covers on the undercover work by an FBI informant and what went wrong.

• A new $25 tax kicks in today on a gun bought in Cook County. Opponents have gone to court to try and stop it.

• The White Sox and the Cubs open the 2013 season today. The biggest drag for the Cubs may be financial. The Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer notes the team's debt load effects who is on the field and has led to an austerity-based rebuilding program.
