In other Bulls news ...
Nearing the end of the long NBA season, injuries to Richard Hamilton, Kirk Hinrich and Taj Gibson are taking their toll on the Bulls. They're 7-11 since Feb. 1, losing five of their last eight games. They've also lost their last four road games. The Bulls, who once had the league's best road record at 13-6, are now 17-14 on the road.
Hamilton is not on the road trip and Hinrich and Gibson are day-to-day as the Bulls prepare to face the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night at Sleep Train Arena. The signs of wear-and-tear as the Bulls try to make up for their absences is showing. Nate Robinson is shooting 25 percent on three-pointers (15-of-16) in his last 13 games after he had made 56 percent (19-of-34) in his previous seven games. Luol Deng is shooting 38 percent from the field in his last 22 games after shooting 44 percent in his first 40 games.
''We're in a little bit of a funk,'' coach Tom Thibodeau said. ''We've got to get the energy back into it. We have to adjust faster. We have to adapt to change quicker. So when someone's out, the next guy has to step in and we have to be able to function well. That part we have to do better.''
Derrick Rose said Tuesday he is physically fine, his workouts are getting easier but he is trying to get over the mental ''hump'' before he returns to the Bulls' lineup -- and that might not happen this season.
Richard Hamilton (lower back) will not make the Bulls' West Coast trip that begins Sunday afternoon against the Lakers at the Staples Center. But Kirk Hinrich (right foot) and Taj Gibson (sprained knee) are day-to-day and not yet ruled out of the game against the Lakers, coach Tom Thibodeau said.
With Richard Hamilton, Kirk Hinrich and Taj Gibson out with injuries and Derrick Rose still not ready to return, the Bulls have to scrap for everything they get these days. On Friday, it was just enough.
Taj Gibson, Richard Hamilton and Kirk Hinrich will not play against the Utah Jazz on Friday night at the United Center. But, with all due respect to those fine players, nobody cares about that. As the end of the regular season approaches, the only thing that matters to Bulls fans is whether or not Derrick Rose is playing, or at least sitting on the bench.
Bulls point guard Kirk Hinrich will miss Sunday night's game against the Indiana Pacers with a sore right foot, coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed prior to the game Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich arrived at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in a walking boot and is not expected to play tonight against the Indiana Pacers. The extent of his injury is not yet known.
Joakim Noah has a chair in front of his locker at the United Center. But after most games, he could use a recliner or a couch or even a bed. He's wiped out.
After muddling through a 5-8 February in which they were 2-7 against playoff teams, the Bulls are desperate for a jolt of energy that only Derrick Rose can provide. But for now, Lou Amundson will have to do.
