Derrick Rose participated in parts of Saturday's shoot-around at the Berto Center and is --- wait for it --- a game-time decision for Saturday night's game against the defending NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks at the United Center.
It's more likely that Rose will not play tonight and focus on returning in time for Wednesday's game against the Pacers in Indianapolis. That would allow him him to participate in two regular-season games before the Bulls begin their playoff run.
Everybody else participated in Saturday's shootaround, according to Thibodeau, including veteran guard Rip Hamilton and Luol Deng, who has a torn ligament in his left wrist, is recovering from sore ribs and also received stitches for a cut he suffered above his eye in Thursday night's loss to the Heat in Miami.
"With Derrick right now, it's health first," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "We've got to take care of that component. Once that's cleared up, what's Derrick's done in the past, it doesn't take him long. Once he's healthy he'll get up to speed very quickly. Rip is getting more comfortable. Luol missed a lot of time this year also and he's playing with a torn ligament and he has done a great job all year."
Jason Kidd is not expected to play for the Mavericks tonight as a preventative measure. The 39-year-old point guard has missed 17 games this season with three different injuries and has rested on the bench for three other games.
Even without Kidd, the Mavericks are a load. They currently hold the sixth-playoff seed in the Western Conference.
"They're a well balanced team," Thibodeau said. "[Coach Rick] Carlisle does a great job with them. They're deep, they have a lot of weapons, they're skilled, they can hurt you with pick and roll, post, catch and shoot. They can invert their offense, [Dirk] Nowitzki, because of his skill set, you have a seven footer with a high release who is difficult to get to. He and [Jason] Terry are two good fourth-quarter players for them. We're not even talking about Kidd. If Kidd plays, Kidd is Kidd. He's a great all-around player. Even if he doesn't play, they're so deep and have a lot of weapons so they can function well if he's sitting."
