Thomas: Gordon gone; get over it

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

Tyrus Thomas is tired of hearing about how the Bulls have to make up for the loss of Ben Gordon's 20 points a game.

"Everybody keeps saying 'Making up Ben's points,'" Thomas said. "Ben's no longer a part of this team, so they're not Ben's points.

"I mean, we've got to do what we've got to do to win. We're not looking at it as making up for Ben because Ben is gone. Ben hasn't been here for training camp and he's not gonna be here this season, so we're not looking at it like that."

Thomas has been quite chatty this offseason considering his lack of production so far in his career. However, he's got a good point here.

I HAVE A FEELING THE ROOKIES AND THE NEW LINEUP WILL MAKE EVERYONE FORGET ABOUT WHAT'S HIS NAME, OH YEAH BEN GORDON, HE IS IN DETROIT, AND IF YOU MISS HIM, TAKE I-94 AND YOU CAN GO SEE HIM, THE BULLS ARE REAL AND THE SEASON IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

Lets see, last year we had BG (a career 6th man) as our primary scoring option at the 2 guard spot. He started because we had no other choice. Deng our starting 3 was OUT and Salmons (played hurt) had to fill in for him. Gordon played starting two guard with Kirk (played hurt) as his backup and Rose with Hunter as his back up. Noah and Thomas were finding their games. A uninspired Tim Thomas was on the roster. All that with a ROOKIE head coach. Its a miracle that we made the playoffs and that we pushed Boston to 7 games.

Flash forward to this season. Bulls have a coach with a year under his belt. A point guard with a year under his belt. Noah much improved. Deng back. Healthy Kirk and Salmons. Pargo off the Bench. And two solid draft picks that are scoring and rebounding. And Byars and Richard. My point - the entire team is improved and this has NOTHING to do with Gordon. With all of those changes you better believe they won't miss his scoring. He actually is supposed to be ON this team helping to push them to the SECOND ROUND. But management has sold us that he was allowed to walk so that we could get a free agent next year.

He is gone, and we have to turn the page - but management should not be let off the hook. And you guys in the press are not doing your jobs. NOBODY IS ASKING THE QUESTIONS - what would this team look like WITH Ben Gordon coming off the bench??? How much more attractive would this team be for a would be free agent??? And imaging a free Agent WITH Gordon coming off the bench??? Why is it that we are one of the biggest markets in the country - but cannot afford to PAY the luxury tax and award the fans??? Media needs to separate their feelings AGAINST Gordon and ask some hard questions. Like him or hate him, Gordon is a major piece to a championship. To let a shooter of his caliber walk for NOTHING is poor management. Gentlemen its time to stop talking about Gordon, and hold this organization to the light.

I'm glad Tyrus stepped up and said that. It's not like the Bulls lost a 10 time all star and NBA scoring leader. 20 points is replaceable!
