To finish with the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Bulls need the Philadelphia 76ers to lose at least one of their final two games.
Although the Sixers bring a five-game losing streak into tonight's home game against the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia's task got a bit easier after the league office suspended Celtics guard Ray Allen for the game.
Allen was punished for elbowing Cleveland Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao in the groin on Sunday. The elbow wasn't noticed by the game officials, but was caught by the television cameras.
The Celtics were already playing without forward Kevin Garnett, who won't return until the playoffs because of a knee injury.
