Time to celebrate an unexpectedly memorable late April for largemouth bass of 20-plus inches from the forest preserve lakes of Cook County.

Brian Pentecost caught his on a LIVETARGET Bluegill Crankbait, a shallow lure, on Busse.

``Stripped about ten yards of line off,'' the Mount Prospect man emailed. ``I have my drag setting set to Marlin, so this girl was pretty mad. I think she hit the bait out of spite, to be honest.''

Larry Green came through with a 22-incher from Axehead, a lake more noted for trout, in the rain on April 23 while fan casting an XR-8 X-Rap Silver.

``I landed it, after slipping down the embankment with my feet in the water, on my rear end,'' he emailed.

The Logan Square man knows water. He started the Humboldt Park Fishing Society and the artist/photographer will have a book signing of his Water Tanks of Chicago: A Vanishing Urban Legacy from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Fortunate Discoveries on Armitage.

Email nominations for FOTW, the weekly celebration of big fish stories from around Chicago fishing in the Sun-Times outdoors page on Wednesdays, to straycasts@sbcglobal.net.
