There's the normal rainbow trout stocked for spring fishing in Illinois. Then there's what Richard Gryniewski of Mount Prospect pulled out of Axehead Lake Saturday on opening day for spring trout.
``Those two were the biggest forest preserve trout I have ever seen,'' Jason Fox emailed.
When asked, Jim Phillips, veteran fisheries biologist for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, said, ``Cool, they might have been carry-overs [from the fall stocking].''
He said the spring stocking was of the usual half to three-quarter pound rainbows.
Fox said they were fishing ultralight gear with PowerBait on the bottom and limited out in under an hour.
I believe that is a first: stocked trout for FOTW.
