Radio Waves: Jeff Pals talks deer & measuring deer antlers

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

Jeff Pals talks measuring deer antlers and the love of deer on ``Outside'' this afternoon.

Timing is nearly perfect since we are in the peak of shed hunting.

The deer measurer and avid bowhunter from Crete gives a good understanding of how deer antlers are measured and scored. Pals measures for both the Boone and Crockett Club and the Pope and Young Club. He also reminds that the primary aims of the clubs are conservation.

Don't ask me why, but we started off with trapping stories. That's the joy of doing a show like ``Outside,'' wandering off on interesting tangents.

"Outside" airs from 4:30-5 p.m. Mondays on WKCC-FM (91.1) in Kankakee. Rebroadcasts of the show are at 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.

One of the big differences between Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young is the fact that B&C places a scoring emphasis on symmetry, while P&Y doesn't.
