Radio Waves: Ed Mullady ends long career

edmullady.jpg A legend in outdoors media

makes his final radio broadcast Sunday, after roughly half a century.

Ed Mullady will have his final broadcast this weekend of his 5-minute ``Big Outdoors Report'' on WKAN-AM (1320). The final one will likely be either 7 or 9 a.m. Sunday.

To listen live online, go to the WKAN site, then click the listen live button.

Here are the likely times his 5-minute shows will air: Saturday: normally 6 a.m. 7 a.m. and possibly 8 or 9 a.m.; Sunday: 6 a.m., sometimes 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Mullady in his planned text has these lines: ``Yes, this weekend will be the final ``Big Outdoors Report'' on the Kankakee River! It has been a great run from somewhere in the 1960's until NOW, 2013.''

That's when you have been doing it awhile and can't remember exactly the start date.

Let's call it somewhere around half a century.

Mullady will keep publishing ``The Sportsman's Letter.'' In September, he will mark his 55th year of it.

Both of those are close to or are some sort of outdoors media records.

This is a great man that has truly helped to understand and improve the Great Kankakee River System and Marsh. I still have and use all of his books regarding the Kankakee River System. Yes, Mr. Ed Mullady has made a mark in time and is a legend. Thank you Mr. Ed Mullady for the years you put in and for a job well done.
