One of the great muskie fishermen on the Chain O'Lakes, Russ Schaller, died early Saturday.
Mr. Schaller and his son Chris were usually the favorites, whether spring or fall, going into the Challunge on the Chain, the contest put on regularly by the Fox River Valley chapter of Muskies Inc.
Rich Gallagher of FRV posted the service details for Mr. Schaller on Facebook:

FRV members & Friends, Sadly, the good Lord took Russ Schaller into his arms this morning at 2:40 AM. Many of us who knew Russ saw a great musky fisherman who was humble and never self promoting. He always took the time to chat with you whenever he saw you. He was one of the best musky fisherman I knew, but more importantly, he was a good human being, a great Father, loving husband and a friend to all. It's hard to believe he's gone.Today the world feels empty without him here, and our hearts are broken over the loss of such a good man. All of us are better people for having known Russ as his kindness and generosity made him who he was!

There was never a truer outdoorsmen nor gentleman as Russ. Everyone who knew him is better for it. My condolences to his family on their tremendous loss. My prayers will be with you during this difficult time.
Mike, I think you summed it up.
