Fish of the Week: Laker of a lifetime

Mike Brod caught the laker of his life on Jan. 3 at Milwaukee Harbor.

The Glen Ellyn man and his son, an active-duty military man back in town, hired Ben Kueng's Guide Service to take them fishing for brown trout and rainbows.

They caught and released more than 30 fish, before Brod boated this 36.5-inch lake trout on a jig tipped with Gulp! Kueng said it was the biggest laker ever in his boat.

``My son and I have caught close to an estimated 2,000 lakers in Canada and Lake Michigan (mostly Canada) and this is the biggest we've boated,'' Brod emailed.

The laker, estimated around 30 pounds, was photographed and quickly released.

``People should know what a fantastic fishery there is right in out own back yard,'' Brod emailed.
