Chicago fishing: Fish of the Week, Wolf Lake walleye

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Sam Krucek caught and released the Wolf Lake walleye of his life in early December.

Along with his son Sammy Krucek, the assistant men's bowling coach at Calumet College of St. Joseph, Krucek was casting a Rapala at night along the shoreline.

``Initially when he was bringing it in he thought it was only about five pounds because of the `sluggish' fight it put up; but then, when he got it to the shore and in the net, we saw how big the belly was we knew it would be close to 10 pounds,'' Sammy Krucek emailed.

The 32- to 33-inch walleye weighed 9 pounds, 7 ounces.

``He told me in all of his time fishing Wolf Lake this was the biggest fish he has ever caught out of the lake,'' Sammy Krucek emailed.

That walleye is testament to 15 years of stocking by citizens, spearheaded by Perch America, on the Indiana side.
