Is this WOTW or Mushroom of the Week, Joe Kalas sent?

Kalas sent this of his friends Karl and Lee Krizka.
``They were out in the woods in western Cook County taking a walk with Lee's service dog, Merlot, on Sunday when they spotted this beauty!'' Kalas emailed. ``Karl cooked it in butter with some herbs and vegetables from his garden. Served along side some pork cooked with apples and onions, the puffball made a delicious side dish.''

Usually this time of the year, I am running Buck of the Week: Unplugged, but this photo was too interesting to pass up.

are these things really edible ? I hunt mushrooms and find these all over but they just don,t seem to appeal to me. How do you prepare and cook them?
Good. I was hoping somebody would ask something about that. I am uncomfortable collecting fall mushrooms by myself. I will try to get some recipes. I know some do the basic grilling. Hopefully, a couple recipes will pop up
