Started fishing in the last light of Friday night for flatheads on the Fox River and kept going to cover Henry's eighth annual perch derby on Northerly Island.
I fished with some of the key people in the conservation group Fox Valley Flatheaders and we boated a couple flatheads, including my 32-incher, in the passing storms.
More on that later. I want to put some context on it.
We finished fishing about 2 a.m. Saturday morning. So I drove downtown to Northerly Island and grabbed a couple hours of sleep, then watched the crowd of people gather for the perch derby from 5-9 a.m.
The bite was on the tough side, but some quality fish were caught. And also tons of rock bass, a big carp and a big drum.
I expect to tie together that story for Wednesday.
Steve Palmisano from Henry's sent the results: Big Fish:
Richard Young Sr. 1lb. 4 oz.
1st Pl. Richard Young Sr. 3lb 12.5 oz
2nd Pl. Michael Chinchillia 3lb. 11.5oz
3rd Pl. James Baczek 3lb 9.5oz
After the prizes were awarded and photos taken, I knew.
It was time.
For me to get my butt home and grab some sleep.
