We settle back into normal summer for this Wild Weekend Wandering around Chicago outdoors, but there are some changes relative to the coming week, too; can you say, ``Wisconsin wolf hunting?''

Even a day or so late, it only seems apt to run the Stray Cast here.

The cooling lakes have taken a beating this summer with the record heat, but they keep producing, as you can click here and see for this FOTW for big blue catfish at LaSalle Lake.

That's bikes to bass, not biking to bass, although I like that idea, too; but summer settles in and some regular summer doings take the lead for this Wild Weekend Wandering around Chicago outdoors.

Paul Petan Jr. caught his first trophy walleye about 8 p.m. June 23 from a northeast Indiana lake and earned FOTW honros.

With some trepidation, I post this Fish of the Week, a wonderful flathead caught and released on the Fox River by Don Keller.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released the state of breeding duck populations in North America and found record numbers; question is whether that will translate to better hunting.

Started fishing in the last light of Friday night for flatheads on the Fox River and kept going to cover Henry's eighth annual perch derby on Northerly Island.

About 100 steelhead were weighed in the 23rd Skamania Mania over the weekend out of Michigan City, Ind., with the biggest one going 14 pounds, 4 ounces.

Birder Alan Anderson surprised two deer, standing in Salt Creek last week, as they browsed on shoreline shrubs at Salt Creek Park in DuPage County.
