Chicago outdoors: First wild asparagus

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Found my first wild asparagus today, more than two weeks earlier than last year; yet it was already wood.

I tried to find fresh shoots near it, but couldn't. Found some other woody old plants, but no shoots.

What's frustrating is that I have been looking at this spot off and on since early April.

Tomorrow may be a day to get out and walk some of my prime spots.

What makes it doubly bad is that I told my wife I thought I could get enough to make an asparagus quiche for a church brunch.

Such is life.
