A great weekend for the opening of bowhunting for Illinois deer translated to great harvest numbers by Illinois hunters.
Forest wildlife program manager Paul Shelton sent this:
Archery deer season began with near-perfect hunting conditions for the weekend of October 1 and 2. Preliminary weekend harvest was 5345, compared to a harvest of 3136 for the first 2 days of the season in 2010 (note that the season opened on a Friday last year, not Saturday).
Top 5 counties were Pike (153), Fulton (147), Vermilion (146), Jefferson (128), and Peoria (125).
