We pack a bunch of firsts into "Outside" this afternoon when Jeff Manes, Patty Wisniewski and Brian Kallies, producers of "Everglades of the North: The Grand Kankakee Marsh," explain their imposing project about the Kankakee basin.
This is our first three-person show. It is our first show with a musical interlude, a playing of John Kennedy's song, "The Great Kankakee."
I have followed this project since Manes and Wisniewski began working on it. I have bumped into them a couple times working along the Kankakee.
Kallies is an add part way into the project. He will be the one with what I think might be the toughest job, fitting all the stuff pulled together by Manes and Wisniewski into an hour.
They have made good progress as the promo YouTube video above shows.
I like where they are headed. This project has potential for greatness matching the greatness of the Kankakee itself.
They still could use help from people with old-time photos from the Kankakee basin. If you can help, e-mail Forgoodnesssakeproductions@gmail.com.
They are making good progress on funding, with many partners pitching in beside the Izaak Walton League, but they could use help to finish up the project. If you can help on that, also e-mail Forgoodnesssakeproductions@gmail.com.
In case you can't tell, I really hope this project finishes up with something for the ages.
"Outside" airs from 4:30-5 p.m. Mondays on WKCC-FM (91.1) in Kankakee. Rebroadcasts of the show are at 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.
