I scheduled Kankakee prairie advocate and birder Jed Hertzto talk about Perry Farm for "Outside" this afternoon with Joel Greenberg and me in anticipation of the Bears starting training camp in Bourbonnais. So much for plans.
"Outside" airs from 4:30-5 p.m. Mondays on WKCC-FM (91.1) in Kankakee. Rebroadcasts of the show are at 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.
We had Hertz on earlier this year talking about his decade long documentation of birds. I said we would invite him back to talk about Perry Farm, a prairie restoration just down the street from Olivet Nazarene, where the Bears do summer training camp when there is no lockout.
Perry Farm, the back portion of which includes the Indian caves by the Kankakee River, is something Hertz has been involved in for years, primarily giving his expertise on birds.
It is quite the spot, and one of our family's favorites.
