Todd Schuit and Glen Gajewski made it out to Gary Light today, and at least one limit of coho has already been caught.
Ed McCain at Mik-Lurch in Hammond just called and said they were able to launch at the Ditch from Portage Public Marina.
McCain said they reported the main ice pack is four miles out.
``With the south winds the next two days, we may never see that ice pack again,'' McCain said.
That may be a bit of wishful thinking, but change is coming.
All in all, that is as good a sign as the geese going overhead all morning outside.

With all due respect - those guys are a little crazy and antsy to get out on the big water as far as I'm concerned! I was up there at Burns Ditch the other day, and while it was clear there was still small chunks of ice - not to mention the run to Gary light is a good 3-4 miles from the launch. If the winds switch and the ice pack blows back in, good luck getting back to port!! It isn't fishing to me to have to dodge any small icebergs in search of salmon: I think I'll wait another month and take my chances at the end of March...
